Post New snare head
I'm going to need a new snare head soon, as i have worn through my old one. It's a mapex maple snare, and now i have a remo powerstroke 3 on it. What should i get? Anything to absolutely stay away from?

That's what I use, bit weird at first cos I'd never used one before, but once I got used to it I love it. I shall continue to use them I think Smile

I switch up between the Evans EC Reverse Dot Snare and a Remo Emperor X. They're durable as heck and control overtones pretty well. A common complaint with the Emperor X is that it dries out the snare a bit.

A lot of it depends on what you play. For rock/metal I'd recommend one of the two I mentioned earlier. Evans J1 Etched is a quality head for Jazz. A Simple G2 Coated would be brighter sounding, but not as durable as a EC reverse dot. I played a super bright Evans ST Dry for the longest time. Very crisp sound when tuned tight.
