I got them at a local music store that is most likely run by a drugdealing illegal biker gang. they're such great guys!

I have noticed one thing about them though that i dont like. when i close down tightly on them, it looks fine except for one side where there is still a bit of an opening. is that just a bend in the metal

How do you mean, an actual ripple in the metal? That would be kinda odd, unles you had a "mastersound" style bottom hat
It could be that you simply have a bit of a lean on the hats or an adjustment somewhere that's stopping them sitting directly on top of each other. Infact hats rarely come down tight on top exactly.
Best way to check would be the same as for bearing edges. Perfectly flat surface, lay them down, check for light seeping through.
In any event, do they still sound good to you? If so all is right with the world... well, your cymbals part of it anyway. The rest is a mess.

I take that hats off and put them on top of each other, and theres a little opening on one side.
yeha its not a huge deal, its just not too aesthetically (sp?) pleasing.

Well, 360DRUMMER, Thats prolly why you got such a good deal lol... That price def is a great deal, New you would almost pay that much for 1 hat if i remember right. Newho, the hole in the side will make an accoustical difference. However, could be good. If its a small gap than think of it as a fast hat situation. the air can escape so you wont get that "swoop" sound when you close them. BUUUUUT! The gap could be taking away from the overall crispness of the hat. The thing about the HHX is that you can bend them into a burrito very easily cause they are very flexable. This gap could be from due to that and weather changes warping it... hard to say really, but for the price you payed, as long as there is no "KEY HOLE" or crack, you made a great buy....
