just about anything higher end will do you well for a long time. tama iron cobras, pearl powershifter eliminators, dw 5002s, 8002s, and 9002s, anything axis, trick pro 1-v and bigfoots, pdp b.o.a's, drumnetics, yamaha flying dragons...the list goes on. it all comes down to you and what you like. I have played just about every pedal I've listed and, save for one that I don't feel strongly about, they are all quality pedals that will do you well as a beginner and as a higher level player. the best pedals that give you the most for you money are probably the pearls and the yamahas, but your feet have to like them also.

just play around. if you can get a chance next year, make it out to the drum road trip where you will get a large sampling of pedals and in the mean time just play on everything you can. since you're not wanting to get anything cheap you may need to hold off for just a little while until you find what you're really looking for.

the pedal i love is IC Rolling Glide. it works perfect for me. and it is very durable. I have played Axis once and i can tell you i wouldn't change my ICs. But that's just me.

like anavrin said, try different pedals and pick the one you like most, not the one we like cause we can give you here 20 different sugestions and you wouldn't know what to do.

I like the pdp boas. But what is your budget?

I also like the Iron Cobras, they last forever and are a bit cheaper...

Dude so there I tried them out and they are so smooth! I was thinking of getting the power glide but when I tried these out I realized I didnt need the power glide.

Screw worrying about pedals...telll me , how is your left foot independance with your hi-hat? If you cant keep a steady eigth groove on your hi-hat under what your hands and right foot ( assuming your right handed) are doing then work that first. Don't waste the money until you have established that control and can run polyrythems between all four limbs independantly. once you can do that then your transition to a double bass rig will be much easier. Work it and build the independance on the hi-hat first....once you can prove to yourself that you can control that, then go spend the money. By that time you will have developed a feel and will know what you want by sitting down behind a few set ups and trying them out.
