Post I don't want to put tape on my drums
I like the sound tape on drums make, but i don't want to use tape, are there any heads that will give the same sort of sound as tape on drums.
Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm new to changing heads.

for starters, you'd want two ply heads, I think Remo Pinstripes will work fine for you. There are bound to be similar heads by Evans or Aquarian, but as I'm not too familiar with those brands, I'll leave those out for now.

You could also use Moongels, or RemO's to get rid of overtones without the stickiness of tape.

You can get Moongels for like $5 for a pack of 4.

yeah, I thought of gel and dampening rings, but my heads are also getting worn out and I need to replace them. I found remo pinstripe 10", 12", 13", 16", and ambassador 14" snare for about £45, ($90) including delivery. From your experience are they good?

Some people love them, and some hate them. Personally I have been using them forever, but I'm in a transition period and I'm checking out Evans heads.

they're good if you're looking for that muffled "wet" sound.

I personally like Emperors, as they're a bit deader than single ply heads but still have quite a bit of tone.

You may also want to check out the Remo Powerstroke 3 (single ply with a built in muffle ring) or a Powerstroke 4 (2 ply with a built in muffle ring) for you toms. Not many drummers know that these exist but the may give the sound you are looking for. They aren't quite as "poinky" sounding as Pinstripes.

I love my Aquarian Performance 2's! They're nice on your wallet and give a low end sound without much resonance, and i prefer them over evans g2's and the pinstripes that i've tried, but that's just my oppinion

Yeah, it sounds like you're looking for Aquarian Performance II's.

I had them on my old starter kit... and they improved the sound of the kit dramatically... but I never tried the kit with other heads so I don't know comparison wise.
