The Stick Control is a great book! You can practise it for years. It is a must for every drummer!

i find that getting rudiments to sound better and faster involves practicing strokes leading with both hands and not only the one you are comfortable with. Also be sure you are using your fingers not your arms also!

Having a strong percussion background, I find it useful to be proficient on snare, with proper technique before starting on a full kit:
