thank you. I wish you didnt have the money to build a kit that you think isnt boring for yourself.

I work with what i have. and tho its basic, it gets the job done. truthfully if i had more money, Id have a bigger set with a lot more cymbals. but i dont, so i wont. at least for a while.

sorry, it really wasnt against you but i see that setup so often im tired of it. it wasnt against any of your gear, my comment was to the setup. if youre making the best of what you have i have no claim to fault you.

and i know what its like to have a wishlist longer than your budget will allow. i had a horrible cymbal set a couple years ago but i did what youre planning on doing and worked to get my stuff. i truly hope you succeed in getting what you really want because its a great feeling.

btw, if youre trained at any kind of laborous skill you can make good money that way. i was an electrician (full time) last summer and i got a lot of cash (a lot to me, not to most) that helped me.

i cant wait to see the upgrades.

creative ingenuity is never restricted by the materials a person has to utilize because once he sees the opportunity of one item having many capable utilities and the lack of a need for many items for one utility he is using the utmost of talent and not relying on his gear.

[COLOr=deeppink]fine. if the rest of the world can pull off a dream theater or rush song on a 4 piece the go balls out for it dude.

you speak of talent and how it can be used to make the most of a small kit. okay, ill bite on that one but youre implying that people who use anything other than a basic 4 piece setup has less talent, which is obviously not the case because even buddy rich used more than that. the guys i see today with this setup (particularly that ride, and on a 4 pc) just bash the hell out of everything with a limited amount of creativity. i wont make any generalizations about the thread starter, however, because i dont know him.

i like lots of stuff not because im untalented but because it adds more voices to use in any situation. i even play songs where i use the bells of my crashes for little accents (not always easy to hit on the fly but im working on it).

again, if this is what the guy wants and its all he needs then i cant stop him. but i was just telling the truth in my first comment....the set is very generic and, imo, boring.

Why in the world would u have to play a dream theater or rush song?

Why be like the pros and not be like your self?

Can i tell you that i know but 1 cover song and i get compliments all day long on my drumming....

I suppose im doing something right

and most of the time Buddy Rich used that 3rd tom for holding towels and sticks and junk...sometimes he used them in solos just to use them .

i dont think theres a thing wrong with your set-up.
Using very little can be a very good thing, heck, Dave Grohl uses the same set-up but with an extra crash and he's is one of the best rock drummers around.
its the drummer behnind the kit that makes the music, if you have the basic's, that you dont HAVE to use any more if u dont want too.
this set up is very simlilar to mine, except i have a single pedal and a stack of busted cymbals to the right of my ride. and i love using it.

i dont actally play a lot of covers but i like playing dream theater and rush if i can figure out the pieces. i dont have to do it but peart and portnoy are 2 of my favorites and theyre much better than i am so i might as well learn something. i do play like myself and it is rare that i do many covers but sometimes ill play with less adequate musicians that require tabs to pull anything off so covers are much easier with people who arent too serious or who havent developed the skills to write well.

maybe you should try playing someone elses work...it may teach you something.

ok ok ok, i dont know what the big argument is. some people like small kits, some people like big kits, some people work with what they've got. truth be told if i had the money, id have 2 new crashes, a china, 2 splashes, and another floor tom. but i dont. I dont know if ur just generalizing me as a travis barker wannabe because of my 21 inch sweet ride, and a pretty common drum setup that has been around for a long time, but it is a good cymbal (imo) the sweet ride existed before travis barker started using it, and even if travis barker uses it, hes a good drummer, may not demonstrate it all the time, but i bet he could out drum a lot of guys on this forum. I enjoy playing a large array of music, rock, metal (what metal i can at my current double pedal level) alternative, "hardcore," jazz, funk. and i think funk is my favorite to play, tho none of my bands play it. I've studied for 7 years under an amazing instructor who astounds me still to this day just as much as he did when i started playing at what he can do, and he gave me what i needed to form my own musical style, ways of interpreting music, and every skill i would need to succeed. I dont know why when people see a small kit, they automatically think "this guy must suck"

i never assumed that you sucked...ive never once said that i thought any less of you because of the kit you play, in fact i even said that i wouldnt geralize you because of your kit because i dont even know you. honestly, the sweet ride is a great sounding cymbal but i constantly see guys just hammer away on it, and not travis barker...i didnt even know that he used one.

i guess no one can just state an opinion anymore....

to be honest, i see more drummers with enormous sets that suck rather than drummers with small sets that rock...locally at least.

my first impression on seeing someone with expensive gear, a million cymbals and a 10 piece set with two bass drums is that this guy is trying to make up for something....i dont know if its skill or something else....

i find it to be modest to have such a basic kit.

I'll agree that a smaller kit is better. Mine is exactly the same as yours, bar the fact that i have an extra crash, splash, and china. Thats it. Mine looks like a punk kit, and i get slated as much as everyone else who has that set-up to be some kind of punk wannabe.
People are just arrogant and ignorant nowadays =/ I'm not referring to anyone in this thread or forum in particular, but still. lol. Wink
