Yeah, man. The key is to get off stage like everything is normal. If you come off saying "I sucked tonight, I don't know what was wrong" you turn off people that may have not even noticed mistakes you made. You may still even get compliments, even if you think you didn't deserve them.

I just had one of those last weekend.... makes you want to ram your head into a wall! Evil or Very Mad Just gotta shake it off (even though that is hard to do).

Only when I'm really stoned. Other than that, I don't think I've ever had a 100% perfect show or practice but never enough to suck.

I'll have like a week every few months or so where I just can't find any rhythm and I suck. I hate those weeks, specially when I have a show that week.

I have a feeling I might have one this coming weekend. We have a gig and I have had no desire to play a lot of the crap we are playing. We're playing a bunch of new shit and I don't like most of them. We eliminated a bunch of new stuff but still. I just haven't been able to get into it. Hopefully it will come together.

Some days I just sit behind my kit and can't even hold a decent beat, legs stop working together completely (being a double-kick drummer.. :s), and just struggle to get round songs I've been playing for ages.
Generally I've discovered 2 litres of Lucozade and a few Red Bull sort it out before a gig, but not every time... :s

i dont play in public very often, but i do have those days. luckily not in public yet, but sometimes at rehearsals and individual practice everything is bad. usually i need to just warm up a bit more, maybe stretch, work out the kinks, get myself relaxed, stuff like that. Dont worry about it, it happens to every drummer now and then

one of them nights? I had one of them weeks, well a couple of weeks where I've just been out of it. stumped if you will. but last night I hit up my jam space and just moved some things around, mainly cymbals and started to play for the next 4 & a half hours. something I have not done in the past few months. It sure felt great to get back on top of things.

Chances are you sounded fantastic. I used to record myself every night and those nights where I thought I completely sucked, came out sounding awesome on tape. On the inverse, nights where I thought I was 100% turned out to be really difficult to listen to.

Key is on any given night- play for the music, not for yourself. Get by on that and you'll be awesome always.

Good point Bill. I have noticed the same thing. I have said it many times before...we are our own worst critics!

I agree whole heartedly that more times than not we're our own worst critics. 95% of the time most non-musicians will be completely clueless to the little mistakes we make on stage. Don't sweat it. We all have off nights.

Cheers,
Louis
