whats your verdict on meinl cymbals?
ive only had one set of cymbals since i brought my first drum kit and those were/are meinl meteors.
believe me if you have never heard what they sound like...please take my word for it that they are absolute crap.
i regret wasting my money on them.
but then again it was because i could not afford better cymbals and meinl's meteors were within my price range
but they are just not up to riding or crashing.
the ride is the worst because it is a big heavy thing and produces an almost in audiable sound.
it begs the question...why after testing them did i buy them?
well to be honest at that time i didnt know a good cymbal from a bad one so at the time they seemed to be good but once i set them up around my kit i was quickly disapointed and very frustrated.
so for me meinl cymbals get the thumbs down

i greatly dislike meteors, i played on one last nite acutally when me and my friend were jammin on a kit at his house (not mine.) they do sound really bad, but they are meinls lowest line i believe. low line cymbals from every brand arent tht great, but meinls cast cymbals are great. the byzance (spl?) and mb20s are wonderful cymbals. just watch a video on utube of chris adler and see for urself. dont diss the entire company just because they make bad low end cymbals.

How are you gonna say that a company in general gets a thumbs down when youve only played their shittiest line of instruments? Meinl is a great company - listen to some of the artists who use them. I own a Meinl Mb10 ride and I couldnt be happier with it. Don't blame a top of the line company for making budget line cymbals that everyone knows sound like shit (including you), cause you're the one who bought them.

i guess you are right.
what annoys me is they must know that the low end cymbals will never play well on a gig let alone for practice at home, so why make them?

i have to admit you are right.
i guess i just feel bad because i made a lousy purchase of what i thought was good set of cymbals....i was wrong.
now i know the cheaper the price the crappier the cymbal....at least in some cases.

you bought them for a reason: they were cheap. beginners dont usually understand the importance of cymbals and dont want to spend the nearly $500 it takes just to get a really good set of hihats, ride, and a crash so they buy cheap cymbals. the company knows that they have a market for cheap cymbals and they make them to make money.

Yes sir. But I do have to agree with you Eagles, I also never understood why cymbal companies allow instruments of such poor quality to be released. I'm sure they could tweak them just a little bit this way or that way to make them more enjoyable. Paiste to me however has always done a decent job of having quality lower line cymbals - the PST5 line that they have now sounds great.

their byzance series is incredible. i was at a gig where i needed to use another drummer's cymbals and he had all meinl byzances (including the dark spectrum ride). great cymbals. not so sure about their other products though.

Welll, everyone's said what can be said.
Low-line cymbals from all companies are bad, no doubt about that. It's really just filler, so that you've got cymbals to play on if you're low on cash.
But in my opinion, Meinl makes some amazing cymbals. A prime example is the Byzance series.

you sir must not refer to all cymbal companies in that manner. i would say from my knowledge sabian, zildjian and meinl all have high end and very low end products. also other companies including bosphorus, istanbul, and trx cymbals i think do not make a line of low end cymbals. i have personally never heard a bad bosphorus cymbals, and the line i like least of theirs is the gold which still sounds great compared to similar rock cymbals of any other brand

Seriously, put some more thought into your sentences, OK? To be honest it looks like something an 8-year old would produce... I don't mean to offend you, I just hate that a 20-word "sentence" has to take longer than a 50-word sentence.
OT: I have a Meinl Meteor ride also, I believe it's 20". Yeah it isn't *that* great, but it owns several rides I've played. For instance, Meinl's MCS 20" ride sucks in comparison. This ride has some personality and if it weren't so uncontrollable I'd like it a lot.

I could line up some sabian b8's zildjian planet z's, paiste alphas, and meinl mcs cymbals, play them all, observe how terrible they all sound. and decide that zildjian, paiste, sabian, and meinl all get a thumbs down in my book and that I wasn't using cymbals anymore cuz they all sucked.
