What can I say?

Zildjians's, Sabian's or Paiste's are ALL good cymbals!

I could play ANY of those, but I have ended up on (mainly) Zildjian's.

I started out with Paiste cymbals, and I loved the sound, Especially of the 602 Formula ride cymbal I had then, and obviously any 2002 cymbal.

Then I swapped to Zildjian's. The main reason was, I bought some 8-10 cymbals at the same time (around 1985), and Zildjian's were then the best bargain, and also the largest catalogue of different cymbals.

Sabian's were really expensive (at least in Norway) at the time, so it really came down do random choice, all though I loved the sound of Zildjian's then and still do.

But you can't go wrong really, with any of those brands!

PAISTE all the way. If you can afford them, they are an awesome cymbal, and a great investment. I plaw quite a few and have no intentions of ever returning to Sabians even though I played them for close to 20 years

My dad's got vintage Paiste 2002's from the 70's and if they are anything to go by, Paiste 2002's are amazing.

Paiste's are my favorite by far.

I'm totally in love with their New Signature Dark Energy crashes, which I went on about in another thread quite a bit, so I don't really want to bore anyone repeating it all. lol.

And my hats are 13" Signature Sound Edge, and they are the best set of hats I've ever heard or played, so I had to have a pair. Fantastic for articulate playing, opening and closing really quick for slurs and barks and whatnot, and they're bright, which I also really like.

They're expensive, but any good cymbal is worth the money in my opinion.

First: My favorite cymbal I've EVER owned is my 20" Paiste signature power ride AKA death ride) I've had it for 10 years and LOVE IT!

Second: I just bought 2 signatures last March (17" power crash & 18" full crash) both broke within a month and were replaced under warranty.

Tonight will be the first time i'll use my new sabian paragon 18" crash. I'll let you know.

Summary: It's hard to beat a good old Zildjian A

Paiste's are by far the best cymbal line out there.There sound is unmatched.Even there low budget line of cymbals can compete against other top companies such as zildjian and sabian.

Personal taste.

I've found everything I've wanted in my Sabians!

I've heard some Pasite cymbals and they do sound great...but,I've also have heard(from drummers that play them)that they are pretty brittle....expensive,ect...

Do what you do,play what you play.....even if it is a trashcan lid.

Yes, they are my favorite brand as a whole. I find them to be the most musical cymbals. They just speak to my soul, and that is what a great cymbal, regardless of brand, should do. The Paiste line that I prefer most is: The Sound Creation and Sound Formula, then Signatures, and Rudes. I really like their flat rides. I am fortunate to have a rather large collection. (200+) The three big companies do make some great cymbals. But as a whole I prefer Paiste?s. I have separate complete set ups of Zildjian and Sabian that I can leave on at rehearsal or club and not worry about them if stolen. (Yes, I would be upset that they were stolen.) But some of my more prized Paistes, I would be heart broken if they were lost. With all of that said a great cymbal is a great cymbal. Some of the smaller cymbal companies make some good stuff as well. I have played and owned some great cymbals from Wuhan, UFIP, Istanbul (I have a great 10? bell from them.), Bosphorus, Meinl.

I love the broken glass sound of my Paise 802's, I have a 16 crash, 20 ride and 12 splash in my jazz setup.

I've found however that for the harder rock stuff Zildjans cut through much better.

It's a matter of choice. Although you can always tell how a Paiste cymbal sounds when you hear recordings from the likes of John Bonham or Alex Van Halen or Ian Paice.

I did have the old 502 Paiste cymbal and it had a high end crash. I suspect the PS5s are the old 502 Paise. Definly cut through any guitar noise thats for sure.

The sheer amount of them around my kit hopefully speaks for itself, i'll never use anything other than Paiste unless they change something in their swiss magic makings.

The best cymbals i've ever played, the only problem i have with Paiste is keeping myself limited to one setup

I like Paiste cymbals very much. In fact there is a little 2002 14" crash at the shop I use for a very good price. It'll probably be the next cymbal I buy. It's a great cymbal for a timbale set. Which is how I'll use it.

Over the years I've owned a lot of Paiste cymbals and I've never been disappointed. Of course I've owned other brands as well. No one brand is my favourite choice, but I do tend to buy more Zildjians than any other brand.

i like paistes and for a while i wanted all paistes but there isnt anywhere around here to play them so after i got my 18" full crash i was turned around by sabian and havent looked back. if i want to play it, sabian has it and i dont think i want to change that.

Paiste are IMO very specific cymbals - they don't sound similiar to Zildjians, Sabians or other. You either like'em or you don't
I personally love Paistes - especially ColorSounds I own a 2000 heavy 14" hats in red finish and I had a 20" ride and a 18" crash but had to sell them
I also have an old 2002 heavy ride (circa 84) and even though it has a small dent I can't imagine a better ride cymbal
I'd love to get my hands on some signature full crashes and some more 2000 color sound (red) to add to my collection

i will only play paistes myself. even tho there more expensive, it dosent matter because there better made so theyll last longer. the only thing better than a new paiste is an old paiste. i havent broken a paiste yet after years of bad experiences with sabian and zildjian. there feel is unmatched and there sound is beautiful, plus they look so damn beautiful.

For a guy like me who is on a tight budget when it comes to gear, "most bang for the buck" is what I look for. When it came time for me to get back into playing after being away from music for a few years (I made the mistake of marrying a woman who, to say the least, not supportive of me playing music) I needed good cymbals but had very little to spend. I knew I wanted cast, not sheet and I knew I wanted them to be versatile because I didn't know what or with whom I'd eventually be playing. I got a set of Paiste Alphas. Not the high end stuff, I know but I was _amazed_ at how good they sound and how versatile they are. In an "unplugged" or acoustic jazz or mic-free situation they're civilized and tasteful. Now that I'm playing in a funk band, I need them to cut through and deliver and by Bonham's Beard, they do it _WELL_ especially when we mic them. I've since acquired an 80s 2002 18" China in addition to the Alpha Session Set (14" Medium Hats, 16" Thin Crash, and 20" Dry Ride) and it, too is awesome. One of my students has some mixed 302 and 502 sheet cymbals and they're not to bad for entry level student stuff, either. As for people who say they're easy to break, too expensive, etc. -- I'm not a super-heavy hitter but I have never had a Paiste give me any problems, and although the Alphas aren't _nearly_ as sweet as Dimensions, 2002s, Signatures, et.al. they _ARE_ a great cymbal for the price. I'd stack them up again Sabians or Zildjians in the same price range any day of the week and twice on Sundays so at least here in the US they're not expensive by comparison. If you get on up into the Traditionals, Signatures, and so on then yeah, they get spendy but WOW! do you get what you paid for.

Just MHO, but I hope it helps.

My local drum store barely ever has any Paiste's, but I will tell you about what they have now. They have a Paiste PST5 16" Rock Crash, and as low quality, and crazy amount of bronze it is, the bell, is all shiny, and cuts like WOW. It is AMAZING!!! I might just buy that JUST for the bell!!! I could like put it over my Sabian B8 20" Ride, who's bell sucks.

They have a few 2002's which are nice.

Then the BEAST, a Paiste Sig. Dark Energy Mark I(I think or 2) 18" Crash. I would agree with the drum seller guy there, it is THE LOUDEST and BEST sounding cymbal I have EVER heard!!! You whack that thing, and MY GOD!!! You have to hit one in person to fully understand it's power!!!

2002's all the way or the RUDE series there good too actually all of them even there 101,s are a pretty good standard and there strong i mean i use ALOT of crash and i gig alot and a 101 (there beginer series) has lasted me 2 years and counting.

My God YES!!! I've been using paiste for 16 years I do believe I used them all. I started off using 2000 and later going to Signatures when they first came out. I love Signatures but they seem to break on me because I'm a heavy hitter. I'm lucky enough that I was able to own 2 complete sets of these to keep me going while I was touring. Anyways after spending about 12k on broken cymbals in a 3yr period I tried a cheaper paiste with different alloys which was a 802 series. I purposely tried to break this cymbal which had a killer sound and needless to say I never broke that cymbal. Since then I never spent 12k on cymbals again. I use a 2002 hats and ride and now using PST5's crashes. I found in a live situation your not going to be able to tell much difference between these cymbals through the mix. Plus if you compare there really isn't much difference. But if your looking for cymbals buy them by the sound not series they are.

Paiste is the way to go if you can afford them. My last set I used Paiste Signature Series and they have been the best I have ever played. I can't afford them now so I am playing Sabien but I am saving up to go back to Paiste's.

I use both Paiste and Zildjian cymbals in my set up. I use Paiste 2002's for my crashes. They seem brighter than the Zildjian crashes to me. I guess it's a matter of preference. My ride is a 20" Zildjian Earth ride and I also use a 16" Zildjian China and 14" New beat Hi-hats.

I'm looking to eventually go with 15" Paiste Sound edge hi hats, a 24" 2002 ride and a 20" 2002 China.

Just my 2 cents

Well Paiste's have a great sound.. I love um... My only problem with them is, I've split a couple high end crashes and havn't split any othe brands... So, there for i wont buy any again. It's all about preferance, give them a shot and see what you think...

i think paite are wicked but u need to spend more money on paistes to get a good cymbal than u do on sabian. sabian's cheap cymbals are the best cheap cymablas to buy in my eyes compared to the other big name cymbal companys low budgets cymbals. Its a personal thing that u need to find what u like . every cymbal range has its strongs and weak points so is a great idea to mix them around a get u favorite out of everything

I am a Ziljian player these days.... I used to own a couple of Paiste cymbals once upon a time. If Zildjian went out of business 2moro- I'd buy Paiste (signature probably). They sound gr8 to me!

The signatures are really pricy, but anything in the mid to high range is just....fiesty (fhymes wit Paiste )
It sucks that alot of the older series and models are discontinued like Dimensions and Innovations cuz those were awesome.

If Paiste still made the 602's I would have them esp the 15 in Hi-hat. I don't like the sound of any other Paiste only 602 and which I never should have sold my last set. A ludwig Rocker. Pearl Roto Tom snare 15' 12' deep, only 3 in the world was for Kiss when the fox played drums for them. 12', 14', 16' crash. 15' hi hat, 24' ride all 602's such a jazzy sound. I kick my self in the @ss every day I paid 3000.00 US for it piecing it together and sold it for 600.00 I didn't think I would ever be able to play again. I find Ziljian fills the sound I want now. Have to piece them together too. I have 7 need another hi hat 15' a K series ride and a few more crash. Right now I have ZBT pro series 4 set, 2 ZXT fast Crash and a 22' Avedis A Custom ping ride. I would like as many as I can fit around my double bass drum set. The picture I have on myspace doesn't have the newest cymbals show, I tried to use the drum kit software and wont work and I do have java installed.
They shouldn't have stopped making the 602's. my main drum supplier was West Coast Drums. I wish they weren't so far away from me. I was raught by the owner which is no longer with us anymore due to walking in on a robbery at his house and the Tama v.p was with him both killed.

I've always loved the Paiste sound; they always sounded a little brighter and more "shimmery" to me, even in the lower priced lines (I LOVED the 505 series). I just find them too brittle for the price, (I currently use Z Customs) and at the time I switched, don't think they had much of a warranty policy. That said, I may have to pony up for one of those new RUDE 24" Mega Power Rides...
