i absolutly love these drums, there beautiful and they sound amazing. what do you guys think?

Very cool. I love those 60's Ludwig finishes, the oyster was SO much better looking than the version they offer today. Do yours have the white interiors or the clear? Enjoy them in good health, they'll never make finishes like that again and NEVER modify them, that's sacriledge. I'm sure they sound great, I'm a huge Ludwig fan and those look very nice.

You have the clear interiors then. Prior to that they painted the interiors white, they switched to the clear interiors in 67-68. If you look at pictures of Ringo, you'll see he has the white interiors which date from early 60's to '68 or so. The shell is the same though so either interior will sound great. I've spoken to Bill Ludwig III on this very subject and he told me that they were selling SO many drums at that time that they had to use lesser quality woods, so they painted the interiors white to cover any blemishes, and that the paint wasn't even dry when they were boxed up and shipped. Back then they were running three shifts at the Chicago plant (which incidentally was not far from where I grew up, I remember on a good day you could hear the stick lathes going at the plant.)

mmm...old ludwigs. nothing else sounds quite as good to my ears. I bought my '63 white marine pearl kit from my high school spanish teacher for 500 bux back in 1986. I've never had a desire to own a different drumkit.
