I prefer Abruzzese. I thought he got a really raw deal the way he got fired from PJ. Check out his stuff with Green Romance Orchestra, it's really cool. He's an awesome drummer. Cameron is really amazing, though.

I would have to go with Abruzze.
I'm a groove guy and Irons is groove guy but to the extreme, he's all meat and potatoes with no entrees or dessert.
Cameron is solid but doesn't have the panache that Abruzze has. Pearl Jam is a really good band that is a perfect slot for a drummer that can add some extra flavors and I think that Abruzze is the best at that.

No doubt that Matt is da King of Kings. Both technically and musically. No wonder why 'Temple of the Dog' asked him at that time ... If you don't remember that was a sort of one time thing done in honor of Andy Wood, done by Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Matt Cameron, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Mike McCready...best symbiosis ever between Soundgarden and Pearl Jam

Dave Abruzzese, I agree with screaming kevin. I love his playing. Dave got the shaft with PJ. I stopped buying their stuff then as well, I really think they went downhill then. They lost a great deal of respect.

I am a fan of Matt Cameron with Soundgarden. I've never heard him with Pearl Jam so cannot comment.
I absolutely hated Dave Abruzzese's playing. I don't often hate what I hear a drummer do. But I sure hated his playing. And seeing him destroy their MTV Live Unplugged performance just got underneath my fingernails like bamboo. Totally inappropriate drumming in every which way I can think of. That they sacked him was good IMO.
On record, my favourite Pearl Jam drumming is the very first eponymous CD. I can't remember the drummer's name, but I sure remember the perfectly loose and slippery grooves he provided.
But my favourite Pearl Jam drummer only recorded some live clips. Matt Chamberlain. He's a very fine drummer indeed.

I really like Camerons playing with Soundgarden, but I would have to say Abruzzese fit Pearl Jam the best. They're first cd was by far the best one they put out.

Dave all the way. Matt is awesome but not for Pearl Jam. I'd like to see him playing a Tony Williams style jazz gig

Dave Abruuzese with Pearl Jam
Matt Cameron with sound Garden
Matt's awesome but pearl jam's no-where near Sound Garden so,therefore matt is limited.

Cameron plays the Cameron parts great and some of them are really cool. But if anyone has listened to any of the recent PJ live discs, Cameron doesn't do the Abbruzzese parts justice.
I totally get the "putting his stamp" on the parts, but some of the setups should be kept the same.
i would have liked to hear more Matt Chamberlain stuff.
Dave Krusen the original drummer wrote some great parts for their best record and for that he gets big props from me.
I liked Jack Irons stuff with Eleven better than his PJ stuff anyway.
But I would take Cameron on my team anyday.....

Dave is not on their first CD. They sacked the drummer on the first CD after recording it. For reasons unknown. I heard he was a negative influence on the band.

I don't care for PJ one little bit, but I'd always thought Matt Chamberlin had something to do with them early on-
was beginning to think I'd dreamed it up.
Guess it's true though~
That guy is a machine! I've had to learn a few of his Tori Amos parts-
he's quite a tasteful composer

I have to say that I pretty much stopped listening to Pearl Jam after Vitalogy but Ive heard the singles that theyve put out since. I loved Matt in Soundgarden but for PJ Id have to go with Dave.

I love his drumming on "Vs."...come on..."Dissident", "Glorified G"...
Also love the tune "Not for you". I'm not a huge fan of PJ, but they were at their best back when they had Dave.
I love Matt Cameron though...and Soundgarden was a much better band than PJ. Spoonman, motherfucker!

In high school, I was the biggest Pear Jam fan in the world. I was bummed when they fired Abbruzzesse, but I wound up liking Jack Irons all the same, and I think Matt Cameron was the best. Looking back, I don't see why I liked Abbruzzesse that much. In fact, I don't like his style at all anymore, and I don't like Pearl Jam either. They got way too political and I'm sick of their music. I still think Matt Cameron is a good drummer though. He makes odd time signatures sound easy. Even though I don't like Pearl Jam anymore, Matt Cameron's Soundgarden and Pearl Jam recordings probably have a had a bigger influence on my drumming than anything else.

dave krusen was always my favourite as well. abbruzzese wasn't as slick, but i dug the way he was a lot heavier cymbal wise which was cool.

I heard Ten the other day. It was driving me nuts because Krusen plays the same beat on every song. I loved it back in the day and now it seems so dull to me.

I thought Dave Abruzzese was the most tasty in what he played. All the little intricate ghost notes and splashes he played were great. I thought Jack Irons was the worst. He has a horrible feel...yuk!
