Its accually damn good. do you always have your hands that far back on the sticks? If your comfortablelike that your comfortable, but i think you might feel more control if you choke up on the stick a little. really good overall tho.

I agree it is good, perhaps some more usage of the tomtoms would've been cooler. Smile
I also agree with some of the youtubers; at least you can keep time. Keep it up! Smile

Linkin Park does have a drummer. I'm not saying they're not using DJ-made beats, but he does drum in pretty much every song.

Hello DrumGirl91!

I'm Josh- I'm fairly new to the YouTube scene, but in answer to your question, here's a couple of vids that I've chucked up over the last couple of months. I'm keen to cover Linkin Park's 'Papercut' sometime in the next week or two. Enjoy!

Actually, Rob Bourdon, the Linkin Park drummer, plays a beat strikingly similar to that which DrumGirl91 plays, both on the album and live versions of 'One Step Closer'. Incidently, the track was originally written without Joe Hahn (the DJ's) contribution. So technically a dj didn't make the beat up (not that it would have changed anything if he had).

So, before you go not meaning to sound like an asshole, do the research Very Happy

Thanks for all the comments!

About the dj drumming thing... I don't know that much about Linkin Park, and in the song 'One Step Closer' I haven't heart much of what I think is computer programmed drumming. But thanks for watching it!

I've watched some of your vids! Papercut is a great song, I've been thinking about playing it on the drums too. But I don't really like the kind of slow tempo it has, in some way.

You play pretty solid and tight! I like the switching from hi-hat to the snare, like you do in 'Funk Groove on Yamaha Electronic Drumkit' at 0.59. I want to learn that.

pull your throne alittle closer to the kick/rack-toms.... really, just bring your whole body closer to the kit... In watching this video, I'm watching you reach and bend foward in order to effectively play anything other than your snare and hats.... you shouldn't have to do that. And this technique you've developed will eventually result in back problems....just trying to help..
Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed your need to improvise and write in your own fills.
On the subject of playing to a DJ enhanced track..... go for it!!! I t's better than playing to a metrenome...kno what I mean?? As a matter of fact... pick a dance/techno track that you favor and write in your own drum track for it while playing.... This will stretch your imagination and allow you to practice keeping a solid pulse.
Play hard!

perhaps she likes to sit that far away from the kit. not everyone lets to rest there balls on the snare ( well not balls in this case)

Good video. You're a better player than the LP drummer is. not trying to be mean, but he's just not real solid and doesn't much play in the pocket. I think they do a tone of post-production work on his drums.

There's nothing wrong with your grip really. As the other guy said, if it works for you, it works! I also prefer to have my hands far back on the sticks. If I were playing like corp snare or something then I choke up, but otherwise I prefer to play with a combination of a French and German grip and choke way back on the sticks. As kinda shown below...

Yeah I got a video...here ya go.

Nice work. Keep playing and havin' fun! Surprised)

I've pulled it closer today, kind of because I was forced to because I needed to have space for a piano I bought.
But I think you're right about my need to bend over a bit for the toms and crashes. I hope my new positioning (Don't know a better word) will work a little better. Thanks for the comment and watching!

I can't imagine I'm better than the LP drummer, I thought bandmembers of such populair bands would play the drums all the time. But I don't really know LP that good, I just like some of there songs.

About the way I hold my sticks, I never noticed before that I've a different way of holding my sticks than other people. Maybe it's because I've the tiniest sticks I could find, holding the stick higher would make it harder for me to slap hard enough I think.

I guess I've developed some weird techniques, maybe I should have payed more attention during my lessons. Razz

Your video is really cool! I want to play the base like you do one day. How long did it take for you to do that, the double base thing? You remind me of the lead singer of Muse, but you're prettier though.

@ Albi Poland: Thanks for the comment!

Yeah I saw him live a few years back, and he's just not that tight. You'd be surprised how many recordings you listen to where they fixed A LOT more than just a few kick beats here and there. No one's perfect, I'm not saying otherwise. Its just some deserve to be on tour, and some...well do not. Wink

Hold your sticks however the hell you want. Sure there is "right and wrong" but those are merely guidelines. I'm sure I don't hold mine the best way, but thats just it. Its the best way for me and my style. Drumming is all about comfort. Some sit high and have their toms flat, others just the complete opposite. Sitting closer or further away is all up to you and whats comfortable for you. Listen to the tips people give and adapt them to what works best. We're all different.

Thanks for the compliment on the video! Glad you liked it. I deifnitely still consider myself a student of double-bass. Its like running. If you don't do it for awhile, you have to recondition your body. It really doesn't take too long to get quick hands and feet. For hands (I know you didn't ask but I'm just throwing it in), play on a pillow with the biggest damn pair of sticks you can find. Play simple 8th notes. If you get past 5 minutes without hurting, I'll be impressed. When it starts to hurt, STOP! Rest for about 5, 10 minutes and do it again. do that 3 times for a few weeks straight and you'll be surprised how fast you get. But make sure you're in time too! no sense in being fast if you're not in time.

Same thing for double bass really. I bought a double-bass practice pad.

Like this one...

I sit in a chair, and do simple quarter note and 8th note strokes. Start at a slow tempo to get your technique down and the style built in to your muscle memory. then as time goes on, slowly up the tempo to your click track and after 2 weeks or so doing this for about 30 minutes a night, you'll be impressed with yourself! but do it consistently...b/c like I said...its like jogging. You don't do it for awhile, you'll notice!

Thanks for the compliment too by the way. Smile Made me blush over here! hee hee (for the record, Muse rules!)

Hope all that helps. I wrote a ton! My fingers hurt.

Aaron

These things are cool but are so far removed from the feel of an actual bass drum. I take bass drum practice pretty seriously and just never took to those things. I suggest using a small extra kick drum. practice slow for extended periods of time. Drill it derek roddy style. try to do singeles like 2 minutes and if you dont get through the entire 2 minutes slow down your click and start over. BOTH HEEL UP AND HEEL DOWN. even you if you never play heel down normally. practice slowly and evaluate your technique. the way the pedal responds to your foot. the way it rebounds. everything. when your foot really becomes one with the pedal you'll be so comfortable you wont even have to think.

feint is your best one by far!

the only two things i noticed were you still seem to be reaching a fair distance to the drums (im not one for being 'standard' but it will tire you out more when you play for a long period of time), and your second cymbal on the right seems to fastened quite tight to its stand (if its a crash that is, i cant really tell)

other than that its very very good
