 My studio session.
This guy I know up in Rhode Island recently put up some tracks from his solo album, which I recorded drums and some other instruments on. It was a pretty cool experience. I got to do something completely different from what I have done in any of my other bands. It was also my first real studio experience.

Are you playing on all four tunes on that? If so, very good, a professional job in my opinion. I really like "Radio".

On "Radio" I recorded drums, bass, and helped with soundscapes.
On "Without Recourse" I recorded drums and rhythm guitar.
On "Wish for the Sun" I recorded drums, some vocals, and helped with soundscapes.
On "Forward Strokes of Soul" I recorded drums, bass and soundscapes.
On all tracks I took part in the final overdubbing and mixing.

Jonas just put up a new one. "Hope Answers the Sign"
on this track I recorded drums, some percussion, overdubbed some acoustic guitar, and created some soundscapes.

That's awesome you did more than just play drums on the recording.
I have found that being experienced and having skill with and playing other instruments helps you understand more about music and helps you see things more than from just a drummer's view.
Plus, it's fun too.

Thanks, guys. I keep telling Jonas that he should get some people together and play a few shows, maybe make a band out of it, but he's got way too much going on right now I guess.

Indeed, and when you know the basic stuff you can give the guys playing those instruments in your band some tips for improvements.

Yeah, it's always helpful to be able to exchange musical ideas with your band, and it's hard for a lot of drummers because a lot of musical terms aren't necessary for us to know. Knowing the terms that apply to say...piano or guitar or bass, and how to use them is just like knowing how to speak another language. It helps you convey your own ideas in ways that any musician can understand.
And in the same way, a lot of drumming terms are not necessary for other musicians to know, but it would help if they learned them.
I remember when I was in my high school jazz band, myself and the other drummers would be talking in "drum shop talk" and no-one else would know what the hell we were talking about. I would ask the bass player "want me to use like a flam drag here for that fill?" or something, and he would look at me like I was insane.
Wow, that took longer to say than I thought.

Here's some other stuff I've done in the studio over the past year or so.
www.myspace.com/yjamband <<actually just got out of the studio with these guys, cutting a new track that we're doing the final mixing on this week.
www.myspace.com/americanapathy303 << i was called in to replace this band's live drummer in the studio because of some technical difficulties. we recorded about 12 songs, but there are only four on that site.
