 acryl, wood or steel snare?
Hey guys!
I'm now thinkin of buying a new snare, I want a very warm and very high sound and of course I want it to look fucking awesome  .
What would you recommend me? If you have conrete recommendations just post them....thx

A birch shell will give you that.
Steel won't give you a warm sound and it will be incredibly loud. Acrylic isn't really good for warmth either. I'd suggest a birch shell with a 45 degree back edge and a round over front edge.

i never really cared for acrylic snares, wood or metal for me.

I've done a few acrylics. They sound great, just not the sound he's looking for.

what kind of sound are they?
I mean actually I'm playing in a rock band, but I don't want a snare where all hell brakes lose every time I hit it, I want something special.....but I think I just have to try some....

I agree, a birch shell sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Possibly 6x14.
If you want to know what acrylic sounds like, listen to some Zep.

bonham didnt really use an acrylic snare though, did he? i know he used acrylic toms and bass, but he pretty much stuck with the supra phonic i thought.

Def on the supra. I would recommend an Aluminum or Maple. I have never gotten a good sound out of a birch snare...

Acrylic is acrylic. Put a snare strand on a 12" tom and you have a 12" snare.

thanks for all your replys. I've been to a music store last week, listened to a huge amount of snares and my favourit one was the new pdp acryl 14''x6''. I has just the best sound.

If you have the opportunity to do so, go check out a Tama StarClassic G-Maple. It's got a wonder body of warm sound, yet a phenomenal fat crack!! I love it to death.. Otherwise, for metal, I'd go with a 14x6.5 bronze. It's got warmth and crack, but a metallic ring to it (duh,...it's metal!!)<no>
