Post adding on a timbale
I found a really great price online for a pdp mini timbale

does anybody have any experience with these?

I am looking for something similar to that 40 oz to freedom sound

I haven't played the PDP model but I have played the LP model in the same size. They're ok for little accents but to be honest they're size didn't give them much presence within the band, and I was using them with an acoustic band. In an amplified situation, they'd be lost altogether. They just weren't that versatile to keep them on my set full-time. I gave up the mini-timbales and bought a set of LP timbalitos which can be heard much more clearly within the band.

My experience is with the Pearl Primero steel shell timbale. It's a 3x13. It appears the the PDP is an 8" drum. In my experience, 8" drums lack quite a bit of projection and may be too high a pitch, especially for Sublime. I use mine in my Reggae band and it cuts very well.

The trick to getting a good timbale sound is in the rimshot. On an 8" drum, the rimshot is at most 4" from the tip of the stick. It's going to lack a lot of depth which you get on the 40 oz to Freedom record. If an authentic sound is what you're striving for, I would recommend spending a little bit more and going for a drum that will help you achieve that authentic sound.

I have another question

after a second look, I am not sure if it is mountable anywhere.

would I be able to attach the drum to my hi-hat stand?
