Post Aging cymbals
I set out on a quest to age my cymbal, fist i heard about burying it, but after 2 weeks i noticed no difference, so i looked up wut aged metal, Patina, a sort of green blue almost mold looking substance that forms on metal after a while, a quick way to patinate a cymbal is, get a bucket (or a bath tub) big enough for the cymbal to be fully submerged, fill it will enough water to cover ALL of the cymbal, then, put a bunch of salt in, probly about a couple full cups depending on how much water their is, but their should be a lot of slat, let it sit in the salty water for as long as it takes, the meatal should look almost a rainbow color, and when thats done, maby a month later, patina will grow much faster, aging your cymbal, and making it sound better.

And if you dont want all your cymbal looking rainbow colored, get some caulking, fill up the center hole, then fill the bottom of the cymbal (youll need it to be level) with water, and then add the salt, this way it will age, but only the bottom will look weird.

Also, hammering a cymbal helps, aging also comes from being hit so many times over the years, so take a rounded hammer, and hit the cymbal with it, not too hard or youll put dents in it, and not hard enough, and you might as well use a drum stick, it will prably leave little scratches, so i usually hit the bottom.

I know people like aged cymbals, so i thaught i would help those people out.

I just used table salt, but when i ran out of that, rock salt works fine too.

I am always on a quest to get something different...so I buried my sweet Zildjian 20"crash/ride...

I couldn't beleive I was actually able to keep it in the ground for over 1 year.

The funny thing is after I rinsed off the dirt, it was cleaner than when I put it in the ground!!!

I guess you havce to keep'em in the ground for quite some time to get that desired effect.

Ya, i found that buring it doesnt do much, evan if the dirt is always wet, because its hard to make the dirt kinda bond with the metal, water helps, but unless you can put a lot of pressure for a long time on the dirt, it wont do much.

Bleach, put bleach in water with the cymbal and it patinas it too, you dont need a ton, probly like a cup or so of bleach, maby less, it depends on wut size cymbal, i used a little over a cup on my ride.

I say just let time take it's toll. I like that I have aged my cymbals naturally by playing them for several years. I don't use cleaners and such on my cymbals because I too feel that the aging makes them what they are. A quick wipe down with a cloth here and there but no cleaners. Let time do it's thing and don't rush it. The satisfaction is worth the wait.
