What is the difference between Multimix 8 Firewire and Multimix 8 USB??

the firewire is basically a clearer sound than the USB. this is hard to explain on the computer but here it goes haha.
when you record drum usually at a studio you have a seperate track on the program for say your snare, bass drum, and toms. thats what it would be like if you recorded with the firewire. but with the USB, when you record it ALL goes into 1 track. so with the firewire if you recorded all your drums and say you wantd to make the bassdrum louder then you would be able too. but with the USB if you wanted to make the bassdrum louder you cannot. all of the levels have to be the way you want when you record them, otherwise youll have to re-record the tracks again. its pretty much a pain in the ass to use the USB sometimes, but thats what i have and i love it and use it for everything. its also less cash. but if your going for clearer sound and better technology then go with firewire. Just recomending, go with the 16 channel mixer cause you cannot use enough mics with the 8 channel.

WHAT?!?!? Do you have any clue what you're talking about?

The only difference between the Firewire and the USB is the connection type. That's ALL. Firewire tends to be slightly more reliable but the only real difference is the type of connection. USB will NOT mix all your tracks down to one by itself. If it does then there must be an ID-10T error.

idk bro i own the USB, and ive used the firewire and it does exactly what i said. i mean you obviously know more than me haha, but i was just saying what ive experienced with both. i know the connection type is different though and firewire tends to be clearer and more reliable as you said

I go with firewire....I don't have the money for 16 chanels and i thought off buying 3 overheads and 1 on the bass drum...To buy the firewire, how the sound goes to the computer??Do i also need something else to use it??

idk about most people but i know alot of computers you need an adapter to connect firewire to the computer. but to solve your drum mic problem they have some REALLY cheap 4 piece packs and you really only need about 1 or 2 overheads if you arent looking to get like really amazing sound. search on musicians friend they have like 99 dollar packs

Haha...guess what man! You're right! I just looked at Alesis' website again and realized what happened. The original MultiMix 8 USB (which is what I think you have) is wired to send only a stereo mix to the USB. What I was looking at is their new MultiMix 8 USB 2.0 which is a multitrack send just like the Firewire. Sorry for that bro!

So k0staZ, I suggest you go with either the Firewire or the USB 2.0 if you're going to be recording into your computer. (Yes, you need a pretty good computer with a Firewire or a USB port. You will also need to install the Cubase LE recording software that comes with the MultiMix. That should be all you need besides the mics and mic cables to connect the mics into the MultiMix.) If your computer has a Firewire port, go with the Firewire. If not, then get the USB 2.0.

I also agree with TNCdrummer about the drum mics. Get a 4 piece pack and mic your kick, snare, and use 2 overheads.
