 Aquarian Superkick II problem.
I just picked up an Aquarian Superkick II bass head, and I tuned it until it was just snug (not super tight, not too loose) and it sounded amazing, but it consists of two layers of plastic, and after an hour of playing, one of the layers sort of ripped... and I'm scared to drop another $35 into another one for the same result.
I play my bass drum with pearl beaters, and always keep it on the plastic side for a more punchy sound, and I do not play too hard. Could this have something to do with it? Have any of you had any experiences like this?

Did you use a kick pad on the head? If not, that's your problem and will happen with any head when you use a hard beater. Me thinks you play harder than you realize.

I had that happen to the top ply as well, with a felt beater though...which was either either because I was playing too hard, tuned it too tight or the piece of crap danmar click pad i had on there that fell off might have had something to do with it. I just assumed the glue jacked up the top ply. It sounds like a bad head though. If you don't play hard and you tune it loose, I don't see any reason it would split that quickly.

if you are in fact using a hard beater then thats your problem for sure. If i play on a head for any amount of time without a slam pad i'll dent it

As usual! Yes, the hard plastic beaters will wear right through the head because the fatigue spot on a bass drum head never changes; it was right in the same place the beater hit on the last stroke.

i hate click pads. it kills my low end, and any punch the head would have given.
go with the aquarian kick pad, or remo falam.

yeah i was about to say if your in to the extreme metal, you might like click pads such as gibraltar or danmar, but if you are looking for tone stay away from them.
