Hey Mods, do us a favor and lock this lame topic.
If you don't have something to say, spend some time reading, you might learn something.

hey thanks for destroying my self-esteem, you know you never know how close someone is too blowing their face off, so next time you wake up wanting to be a try and keep it too yourself, cause you could effect someone that dosen't need to be effected, also i was just joking, and if you read through the forums you will notice that almost every single post around that is serious involves the word groove atleast once but usually a hell of a lot more, and i know that other words can be used, i just feel the word is becoming meaningless and overrated..........
Sounds like a little bit of couch time would be good for you....better yet go bang on your drums for a while!
Groove is something that if you don't understand what it is, you probably haven't experienced it. Kinda like sex, but different. Why do we talk about it? Because it's important!!!
I do agree the word is sometimes used in a nefarious context, usually slung out by other band members towards the drummer in an attempt to mask their own deficiencies. I once taught this guy who could play with a metronome perfectly in our lessons (read: great inner concept of time & locking in) but his bandmembers would DESTROY him on a nightly basis because "he sped up". When I went to see the band, the guitarist was slowing down, adding to the illusion of my guy speeding up. And know what? This constant beratement almost caused him to quit playing drums! Most musicians who tacitly throw the word around as if it's cool to say (the "buzzword" factor) wouldn't know a pocket if they were choking on lint.
But as for us, we talk about groove, pocket, feel, etc. because as drummers THAT'S OUR JOB. So if you're a housebuilder and are building a "rock-n-roll house" do you put frilly trinkets and doily decorations on the foundation/framework? Didn't think so. If you are kissing on a "ballad" girl (or guy), do you just throw her/him down and schtup her/him like * that? Didn't think so. You gotta fit the mood that you are trying to get across. And 90% of our duties as a drummer are to lay it down.
You know, we sorta put a premium on learning stuff around here. Sometimes it's better to kick back, use the SEARCH feature to see if the question has been posed, and then ask a question, make a comment, etc. without just blanketly criticizing something you don't understand. If you did, you'd know.
So, have a glass of Kool-aid. We'll get you on the right path soon.
PS- because you had very nice things to say about me, I'm explaining as nicely as I can to you. Normally I am the über-dickhead here ....just so you know.

Just Groove man...play the gig, get your free cup of water and groove...
I think Jazzers have exclusive rights to this word. That's right, pay me a fuckin' royalty every time you say it.
