Post Bass Drum Attack!?
I just recently purchased a Yamaha Stage Custom Nouveau kit. I strapped on a 22'' Remo PowerSonic Coated head on the batter side, and I Ebony Remo PowerStroke 3 on the Reso side. I spent quite a bit of time tuning it, and had some other drummers take a look at it. I still CAN'T get the attack that I want out of it. I've heard Yamaha Maple Custom's and Oak Custom's with the exact bass drum sound I want, but I can't get it out of MY bass drum!

Could it be my bass pedal beater?

Tuning too low?

Reso head?

Please help!

try tuninging your powersonic really high, pushing in on it with your hand and then tuning it low

itshud make the skin easier to tune

ive got good attack out of mine by tightening the reso head quite loose and having the powersonic quite tight, not too tight but like medium tight and a bit more.

have the reso quite loose.

use a hard beater, wood or plastic

ive gotten awesome attack out of my maple bass drum with that

my thoughts exactly...its like putting a pinstripe over an emperor and expecting a full, resonant sound. get a real resonant head and then see how it sounds.

also, you got a stage custom expecting it sound like a maple custom or oak custom...not going to happen.

It isn't a resonant head because all of the marketing tells you it isn't? I use a Powerstroke 3 on batter and resonant and everyones keep raving about my kick drum sound! This is the one comment I can count on getting on every gig.

the resonant head is the way it is for a reason..to allow the air to resonate inside the drum..puttin 2 batter heads on the drum will deaden the drum and reduce the tonal quality.

When I purchased it I was told that it was a Reso head!? Which heads from Remo would be a proper reso head?

No, they have a PS3 for the batter side (which comes with Falm Slams), and a PS3 Ebony for the reso

Post yo heres the solution!
Tune Both heads (resonant and batter), one half a turn on both heads with your key. the whole idea ist oget both heads sounding the same. so star with the batter then move onto the resonat lug after lug
