Birth of my new Odery kit....
Hi everyone!
I'm having a kit built for me by Odery. They are a company out of Brazil who make incredible drums. They arent very well known in the states or readily available - YET. I thought Id post some progress pictures for all to enjoy, since we all crave constant drum porn
The kit: 20x20 / 8x7 / 10x8 / 12x9 / 14x12. The shells are made of 4ply Araucaria wood from the Brazilian rain forest. I am having them finished in radica (curly) maple with Italian inlays, brushed brass lugs with the rest of the hardware in chrome. I am having a custom fade Ive worked on with Odery called mocha imbui. The fade will be from the bottoms up to the inlay. The fade on the kick will be from the floor up, as opposed to starting from the front or back of the kick. Odery makes all of their own lugs, hardware and suspension systems. Should be a real peach of a kit. Here are some of the progress pics they have sent me so far. Ill add more as I get them.
Enjoy!
These are after the shells were made:
These are after the veneers and inlays have been applied. Next step is the fade lacquer:

I've heard very nice things about Odery - and seen some beautiful kits.
Love to hear some audio down the road!

Those are Italian inlays. They are different types of wood that make up a design. Completely for aesthetic value and does not affect the sound.

post more dam it steve! i was so close to finishing and u just cut me off! they're beautiful man, i love the inlay its one of those things that if it could talk would say "I know, im amazing, but u know... i try to play it down cause i try to be modest about it" And let me get this straight... the lugs are brass lugs, but the rims, etc in chrome? if so they will look awesome especially with the array of different colors in the timber and u dont really see it often. I think thats going to be one of the coolest kits i have ever seen when its done... looking forward to more of ur erotic posts

Greetings down under!
Erotic post??? Ha ha! That made my day!
As far as the the brass lugs chrome harware thing. Its all personal preference. To me, powder coated hardware sometimes just looks odd against the chrome of stands. I have a white kit with white powder coated hardware that looks cool to my eye. With this kit, Im going for the classy look. I think the brushed brass sits well against the grain of the wood and the fade Im having done (I ran a lot of different options in photoshop before making a final decision) By having the rims and all the other hardware in chrome, I think it will tie in with the chrome stands and be more aesthetically pleasing. Again, its my personal taste and preference. Others may not have gone the same route, but then they arent the ones smackin down the big $$$
I also decided at the last minute to have the kick cut back from a 20x20 to a 20x17. Got lots of input from all sorts of folks and it seems like I am making the right decision if I want a more versitile kick, which I do.
Here is one of the designs Ive done for the front drum head. Still waiting to get pics of the fade so I can make adjustments to the final colours. This design has an "erotic" component to it

Nope, not a member there.
I got the baby pic off the web, but photoshoped in the baby smiling, the colours and the images in the sunglasses. Some other subtle things as well.

Loaded....pffft! I wish
I see you are from Rochester. If all goes well and Zen posts the logistics for the DRT, I may be bringin them to the DRT. I dont know what the criteria is for bringing kits to the thing.
Have you played the Oderys before? Ive only come across a very small handful of people who have actually played them and a few more who have seen them at trade shows. Im pretty stoked.

I was lucky enough to play an odery snare. It was sooo nice. Crispy goodness.
I'm stoked for you dude
