it takes practice...alot
but for the angles
its easier to play at an angle....but you wont get any bounce, i almost have my snare flat
and practice any motion thats like pulling a trigger
just work at it and youll get it
youll have to develope volume when you have the blast beats down perfect

Practice playing loud at a slower tempo, and slowly build it up, give it a few weeks, maybe 5 bpms faster every other day or somethin' like that, you'll get it. Just practice practice practice, get the strength down, then the endurance

Get the definition of each stroke sorted, and the volume will come into its own. Sloppy blast beats seem to have no definition.
The best blast beats I ever saw live, were from Trym (Emperor, Zyklon).

I just play like hell with emotion and it is LOUD. I guess I grew up playing that way. Almost every snare beat is a rim shot. I play with a very flat snare and do rim shots without thinking of it like automatically! I guess I had the Bono Touch, even before I knew who he was.

i can't blastbeat when i cross my hands and play but when i pull em out, (on a right handed set) and play left hand hi hat, right hand snare, i can blast perfectly, most likely because of the angle is pretty straight and i get good bounce.

You could pick up "The Evolution of Blast Beats" by Derek Roddy
http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_detail.html?sku=WM.WM00006&cart=337546229218544078
If you cant learn blasts from that...go play something easy like funk
