Hydraulics feature 2 plies that sandwich a thin layer of oil to give the fat, wet sound that was pioneered in the ’70s. The oil decreases sustain and enhances attack without effecting feel.
I have used the hydraulic heads for six or seven years now and love them. I was putting a new set on and just to have fun I put the old ones on a $100 garage sale set with no resonant heads. They sound terrible, but set them up correctly on your midrange or better set with some 10mm resonant heads and they sound huge.
