it's one of their lower end kits,
with all the talk about their bad bearing edges
i would only go with their high end kits..
but that's just me

well i need a good kit under 500 that has 18 and 16" floor toms and either a 13 or 12" rack tom and a really deep bass and snare i dont think there are any so just 1 bass 2 floor toms a snare and 1 rack tom so a 5 peice are there any cheap sets that have those sizes for under 500 or 600 cause i thought i was getting 1500 this summer but my boss called and cut my hours big time so..

this kit has the tom sizes you're looking for,
and it's a higher end ddrum..
but it's a little more then your budget..
i'd either say save up or get a used shell pack

basswood isn't bad, i've been really happy with my dominion maple, ddrum is defiantly quality stuff!

I'v seen sets with 100% birch shells in that price range. Birch is a more desirable wood than basswood by far

Yes, its better than your pulse kit.

I own a diablo 6 piece. It was worth $500 to me. Its a sexy kit...its the all white. That said, I bought it as a practice kit. The bearing edges are horible. I'm having them redone by a friend so no big expense. This kit would never hold up to the rigors and demands of my show schedule. The hardware would never last. Its a b$&@h to tune with the crappy edges. But if its a starter kit and isn't going to be set up and tore down all the time then go for it.

To be honest, you can't expect much for $500. There are pics of it on the "show your drums" category.
