 Re: diecast hoops
The main points are that triple flanged hoops will flex where die cast hoops won't. Meaning, if one tension rod comes loose with a triple flanged hoop the head will detune where it won't, or will detune to a far lesser degree, with a die cast hoop. This also makes rimshots stand out. The added weight of a die cast hoop also dries a drum shell out.

 Re: diecast hoops
yeah, personally, I prefer rolled hoops (standard triple flanged) to diecast hoops, because as scott mentioned the heavier die cast hoops cut down on a drum's resonance and make the note shorter. if you're looking for a more focused, shorter snare drum note, they might be what you're looking for. I like a little bit more open tone to my drum sound.

 Re: diecast hoops
Rim shots are wonderfully loud and full, I like my snare Brass set up a la Stewart Copeland with a dicast and a 2.3 triple flange on the snare side.
