 Drum and Bass
Hey, what's going on guys. I've been a big fan of drumming for years, but i've recently got into DJing in the past few years. One of my favorite genrae's of music is probably drum and bass and jungle. What do you guys think of drum and bass? Do you think it's an extension of drum techniques into the future, or do you think it's just another waste of time...
Discuss plz, k thx!

good stuff. I also dj...I'm more into the ragga jungle end of things. All those hyper-edited drums make me giddy.

I always thought that a "live P.A." format kinda like rabbit in that moon would be fun to play with a mix of acoustic drums and loops and triggers for the noises, effects, and hyper fast single stroke rolls you hear in some D&B/jungle type of music. I just never found the right people to do it with.

I've been developing a live pa set with a friend of mine that I also dj with. We're plugging a roland v-drum kit into the laptop and setting up the sounds in ableton live. this way, the sounds change with the song section. coolness, although occasionally confusing for a split second when the sounds completely change.

That's dope, i'm a big fan of the amen break, especially with a really deep bassline, I found out people jump around a lot more with a nice steady bass instead of shit goin everywhere and off the walls, lol.

I was brought into Drum n Bass through David Bowie's "Earthling" and Buckethead's "Day of the Robot" produced by Bill Laswell
There have also been lots of Indian Drum n Bass stuff that works really well with tabla

I like drum and bass a lot, although I've only recently gotten somewhat of a style of it down. I don't know a whole lot of different artists that play it, but two that I do know, and really look up to, are Jojo Mayer, and KJ Sawka.
Jojo Mayer for his incredible technique. He just makes everything look effortless, and his mastery of different rudiments around the kit is amazing.
And Sawka because he was really the first one I saw play it. He's really creative I think.

I've started doing "DJ Skills" as part of my college curriculum. Hard-hitting, fast, powerful drum and bass is the win. When I "produce" as well, it has to be DnB. Or dubstep.
Going to see Pendulum soon I think. Not really drum and bass as far as tradition goes, they're a bit of an enigma, but they're paving a bit of a revolution. I've heard they're amazing live, and pretty true to their studio performances. Can't wait

I'm sure there are a shit-ton of incredible D&B players, not purposely leaving them out of the conversation - but check out JoJo Mayer. The guy is just unbelieveable .. and has done some cool instructional videos really detailing his technique.
