 Drum Mats
Hey guys,
Been looking into investing in a drum mat so I have the extra security of having things no slipping about (..damn slave pedals..)
My problem is what dimensions would be the best for my kit??
My profile photo shows my kit in all its glory so to give a rough idea of what I'm looking for..

I biult my own. I got some carpet and a 2x4. covered the 2x4 and nailed it to the carpet from the bottom. Smartest thing I ever did. Leaveing it in Colorado Springs was the dumbest thing I've done in a wile. Time to biuld another.

maybe 8 - 10 ft wide, and 7 - 8 long.
mine is like 8 x 5 and it is wide enough but some of my stands at the front don't fit on, like 1 leg will stick out or something. that should be a good rough shot. are you just wanting a rug or carpet or are you building a riser?

if you don't think the dimensions i gave you will work you could always just measure how much you actually need and then add a little bit to be safe.

set the kit up, measure around it, thats the size you need
if someone doesnmake one large enough (I only bought a protection racket one because I worked in a music shop) then just make one out of old carpet.

Yeah I was thinking about doing that but half my kit is in storage at my mates house who stays around 20 minutes car drive but I'm getting it back this weekend.
I'm only wanting a pro drum mat or carpet. I'm not fancy enough to have my own custom riser

can someone give me an opinion on this??

lol ok so protection racket it is
the only thing is that £70+ is a little steep on my current budget...
thats for the largest mat that they offer

yeah they are expensive, pretty good though. more useful if you have to pack it up and drag it home after lots of shows.
if it is just a permanent home fixture, I would advise a bit of a cut off from any carpet shop. probably 10quid

I use Kaces Crash Pads, they have the built in bass-stop so it can't creep on you, and it folds up nice and portable.
not sure if 5.5 x 4.5 would work for you, but I swear by those rugs.

get some carpet, bolt a couple of 2x4's about 20" long stacked to the front of it.

i saw that one too
basically will it comfortably fit a Pearl 3 Sided ICON Rack like the one on my profile photo? If so then that means I won't have my 2nd floor tom halfway off the mat

You should be able to buy those foam pads from the first link you posted at a hardware store or building supply store.

I think for my next drum rug, I'm gonna hunt down some visually appealing carpet. The one I have now is about 6 yrs old, and looks like it sat in front of the stage at CBGB's for a month or two. One bandmate refuses to allow me to carry it in the car.
