Drums slipping and sliding... Pedals help?
Hey guys, I am kind of a newbie at playing live shows and have been having troubles getting my drums to stay still. My kick and hi-hat run away from me while my 16 in floor tom crowds in on me. Some of the stages we've been playing have been crappy and hard wood, and even using a rug hasn't really helped. Currently I have kind of crappy kick and hihat pedals with no grip (I'm a poor college student), and i think that might be a big part of the problem. Would good grip on a pedal really control the movement of my drums? And any recommendations for good pedals with grip/velcro?
Thanks guys.

it sounds lie your setting up on a tile floor, or using cheap hardware that has no spikes

Are you using carpet?
If you are, engage the spikes on your kick drum spurs and on your pedal. Then, it's not likely that it would move.
I can't gig without a carpet.
Also, this is pretty cool for the slave pedal. I have one and it's awesome.

yeah, the guy above is right, use the spikes on the bottom of your bass drum legs, i never knew they were there until the rubber that covers them slipped of when i was moving the kit.

Thanks a lot guys... Definitely helped out. I will look into a good mat, and I know now I definitely need to invest in some better pedals.
Appreciate the help!

Look your pedal over real good. Even on the most inexpensive pedals, there's usually an adjustable spike.

I use Gaffer tape on my snare stand to keep if from moving. I just tape all three legs to the carpet. I used it on a Rogers kit I
used to have to keep the bass drum from moving, it didn't have spikes and neither did the DW 5000 pedal I was using at the time.
(That was a few years ago.....) I would also recommend to invest in gaffer tape instead of duct tape. Duct tape leaves an adhesive
residue behind, where the gaffer tape doesn't.

i cant count how many times i have seen great drummers, people i personally know who happen to be very intelligent, not to mention they gig all the time and can tell you ANYTHING about drums, show up to a gig without a rug and their stuff be slipping and sliding all over the place. since the DAY i started drumming, i pulled out a little piece of crap rug that i found laying around in my shed. it is a HIDEOUS rug, an awful creature. but it has been to every gig and practice with me, and with it being the only thing ive never replaced, has some sentimental value. my blood and sweat is literally all over that thing. other drummers are constantly asking to borrow it when they show up unprepared. and other guys spend decent money on drum rugs that are very tiny. you can find i good sized piece of carpet anywhere. i CANNOT stress enough how important it is to have a good rug. and when i say good rug, i have a cheap piece of carpet that is perfect for the size of my kit, and has a little extra room.

I've been known to trash-pick carpet for that purpose.
Right now, I have one of those Mats you see in businesses, with rubber underneath.
Carpet from the trash works great.
Just cut it to size.

someone mentioned a brand name drum rug. you dont need to spend 50 bux on a rug. go to a carpet store and ask them if you can look in there dumpster. you might get lucky and find a big piece. thats how i found all of the inner lining padding my for drum cases.

I have a crappy old piece of carpet that I bolted 2 2x4's to the front of. my 63 luddy 20" has crappy spikes that don't hold it in place even on a rug.
