Post EMADs falling apart?
i have used the emad and the emad II's and both of them had the plastic crack around the part where the dampening ring goes... i used these around 4 monthes before this happened... i was wondering if it was becasue of the way i tuned them or if all of them do that?

thanks
tj

I just put on number 4 since Aug 07 last night. I was gonna try and strengthen the ring with scotch tape and forgot to bring it. So I installed the
smaller dampening foam and used gaffing tape to help add strength. I've tuned it loose and medium, broke both ways. I think it
breaks because I use a DW5000 with the beater backwards. I have one more EMAD head left, after that breaks, I'm gonna try an Aquarian Super Kick.

I had this problem, I just used a bit of Duck tape to make sure the ring didn't fall out and stuff, without actually taping it to the head. I've had that head ages and I'm loathe to change it cos it still sounds mint Smile

I haven't had that problem and I've had my EMADII head on my drum for about 8 months now.

ive had my EMAD2 on my bass drum for about 8 months and it finally started to break. The first ply literally peeled almost all of leaving a tiny bit of it under a click pad, the bottom ply, and a whole lotta duct tape. I am a heavy hitter however, so this may have contributed to the problem. But at least it gives me an excuse to buy a SKII at the Guitar Center Memorial Day sale on monday!

I use to play a emad head and this never did happen to me it could be that
you tune it too tight.

I used to use the emad heads exclusively. I'v used a ton. never cracked one plastic ring. I think you guys are tuning too tight or unevenly

no it couldnt be that I tune too tight, if anything I tune too loose. I have them set to about a quarter-turn above the point where it begins to get tension and you can't finger tune anymore.

My bass drum is tuned JAW or just a bit above. I haven't broken the ply's, I just keep breakin off the foam ring holder. It starts coming unglued from the head. I think its from
playin with my beater plastic side foward.

I started using Gaffers tape to help hold the foam ring holder on, but it does choke the drum a bit.

Post EMAD Issue
Very Happy Hi,
Last thing I heard is that Evans addressed this problem. It did happen to me and it has nothing to do with tuning the drum too tight or un-even tuning.

I have since purchased two more heads for my kits and so far they are holding up OK.

I will keep you posted.
