Hey all,

I was thinking of getting the following Zildjian cymbals, but I can get Sabian ones at a very discounted price. So, could you help me finding out what Sabian cymbals are best comparable to these Zildjian ones? (And in fact, I've always found Sabian having more tone, so this change isn't bad anyway.)

17" K Dark Medium-thin crash
17" A Medium-thin crash
14" K/Z Combination Hihats

I'm *thinking* these could be the best alternatives, but that's from hearing online samples. I know it's not good to rely on, but the best I can do at the moment.

17" HH Medium-thin crash
17" AAX Stage Crash
(No clue on the hihats - *probably* a HH)

The comparisons you have made are probably pretty close. Some would say the standard Zildjian A series is more comparable to the Sabian AA line and that the correlation between the A Customs and the AAX's is closer.

Regarding the hats, the Fusion hats are going to be similar, but not exactly the same. The Fusion's have vented, but very heavy bottom cymbals. I believe there are Fusions in a couple of the different series, but there are all HH leopard (hammered but unlathed) bottom cymbals. The vents are in the bell.

I agree, maybe an AA Medium-thin Crash would be better. I also like the sound sample of it more. (Jeez, I should really go try them out somewhere.)

As for the hihat... Well, I really can't figure out what to get. I'm starting to doubt the K/Z too. What I need is a versatile hihat, but it should have a great semi-open sound. We play alot of fast punk, so fast notes on the hihat (semi-open) is really common. So it really can't be too bright, or that'd get "annoying" if you know what I mean. K/Z has an awesome semi-open sound but isn't very versatile as far as I know. (And even if I do go with K/Z anyway, I should still find an alternative with Sabian. )

your crashes are basically dead on. for the hihats i would look at hh fusion hats...same basic concept as the k/z with a dark, thinner top over a super heavy bottom, or maybe aa fusion hats if you want them just a little brighter. imo, the bottom of any of those sets is too heavy to play open very much but my god they sound amazing closed.

Hmm, what about HHX 14" Stage Hats? They're not really that comparable to K/Z but I think these might be what I need.

im sure you will grow to love them. i usually do when i play cymbals grow to love them

sgarret told me the k/z combo hats are similar to the hhx hi hats from sabian. as for the a medium crash id say aa or aax and for the dark crash id say hhx not sure tho.

Fairly similar, in that the bottom cymbal is a lot thicker than the top but not so thick that it gets in the way.

I use 13" HHX Stage Hats and have found them to be every bit as versatile as I've needed, everything from quiet pop/rock to loud-ass metal, and from r&b/funk to rap. Being HHX they have a slightly darker tone, but the 13" size adds just enough brightness. You can hear them on my MySpace profile, in my signature. They replaced a set of 14" Z Custom Dyno Beat hats, which is what the bottom of the K/Z is. Lemme tell ya', Dyno Beat hats are freaking loud and unforgiving.

I made my decision I got the following:

14" HHX Stage Hats
17" HH Medium-Thin Crash
17" AA Medium-Thin Crash

They just arrived. Ended up being 16" instead of 17" though.

They sound awesome really, they're amazing. But I'm afraid to hit them They're a *lot* thinner than my Staggs so yeah, I guess I'll have to get used to it. Hope they're not too fragile.
