what kind of heads do you have on the bottom?
you need to put resonant (thin 1-ply) heads on the bottom.
also, get the drum tuning bible. great book.
also, search this website for threads on tuning. everything I could tell you has already been said in 100 other threads.

Congratulations, you just bought a kit with super sharp bearing edges and extremely fine tension rod threads. You're just going to have to learn how to tune it.

get rid of the emperors. I got a pdp and it came with the dw heads also and I still have the same resonants
on mine and they sound fine. I just changed the stock batters to some evans ec2's.

Those aren't the same heads that come on DW kits because DW heads actually sound good.

If you want a fatter sound Pinstripes would be a better choice.

oh, sorry about that. I guess mine don't have the full ring around them, on mine the coated rings were split into four parts.
But yeah I din't like them very much. Anyways, go for the pinstripes. I have some on my old crappy kit and they even make those sound pretty good.

Remo makes their stock heads for them.
mine looked like that on my pdp.
that's what "good" dw heads look like.
sorry about the bad picture.

They're the same style head, not the same quality.

i think they are like ambassadors, with a coated ring around them.
Well, now i am just tuning the drums to the note punched inside the drum, and its a slow painful process getting there, i may purchase the tama drum tuner, just to get the even pitch at each lug, what do you think?

That's exactly what the DW heads are, not the PDP heads. The PDP heads are budget heads meant to keep the over-all cost of the drums down.
The note inside the shell was stamped before any of the hardware or finish were put on. Read the Drum Tuning Bible and follow the directions.
The trouble you're having is the sharp bearing edges and fine pitched threads on the tension rods. These can be very unforgiving if you don't have a firm grasp on tuning lower quality drums. That is, provided you have a DW and not a PDP...it's hard to tell sometimes. Seriously man, I've tuned many DW kits.
