I've played on them before. Very dark and specific sound.

Yeah, they aren't popular because of that dark and specific sound.

do you have any thoughts on a ride that would compliment it well? i have an hhx evoltion 20". its okay but i think its starting to sound out of place with the rest of my cymbals and its not as dry as i would like.

Take your hats to the drum shop with you when you test out rides. That way you have a direct comparison instead of the one in your head being effected by all of the other cymbals.

thanks for the input. ill probably be buying an absurdly expensive snare before i get a new ride but i intend to take the advice of both of you.

I always told my customers not to look at the logo on the cymbal. Just hit it and let your ears make the choice. If you like it, then look at what they decided to name it.

word. i have a little brand loyalty becuase my first drum teacher told me the story about the zildjian brothers and how sabian came about which was told to him by dom famularo who was his teacher (when he wasnt going around the world giving clinics). really though i wasnt referring necessarily to a sabian ride. this post just happens to be in the sabian section

I can fully understand that. I spend all of my time in the Sabian section, too.
