Post High Hat Rod
My high hat rod always comes loose. Its a Pearl model. Any suggestions on how to keep it in place or can anyone recommend a good stand that doesn't have this problem?

tighten it with plyers. any hi hat rod will have the tendency to come loose with time. you just have to check it every once in a while. but using plyers should hold it for a while

iron cobras and TAMA roadpros have developed a technology that eliminates that.. i would highly recommend getting one of those.. i have been playing on it for years without any problems

Thanks. I checked out the Tamas and I saw the feature that is supposed to keep the rod in place. It looks pretty cool. Can anybody else confirm that they really stay in place?

I don't know about this, but I use an older Tama hi hat stand. When I assemble the stand, I usually pull the clutch cloclwise enough for friction to do the job. I wouldn't recommend pliers or overtightiening the rod as you can either strip the threads or snap the rod altogether. Then you have a whole new set of problems.

I am going to sound like an old fart here......

Ludwig had a slotted snare drum in the early 1980s that did basically the same thing only there were no adjustable slots.

I can still hear my Daddy's voice echoing from the past "BOY, don't ever use pliers when you can use a c-wrench!"
