Post How does one achieve this snare sound?

Is it possible or is there too much going on with the mics?

what kind of snare do you have? try putting an aquarian hi energy snare head on it tighten it and tighten the reso head tight i did this on a ludwig metal snare i had and it sounded almost identical to this so idk if it will work for you but it did for me hope that helps

I have a crappy yamaha stage custom snare. It's 14 x 5. I'm planning on buying a deeper snare. What are the dimensions on your snare? I was thinking 13 x 6.5.

EQ and compression on 7-8"x14" drum, tuned fairly high. Smile

man you'de be surprised about what sound you can get out of a yamaha stage custom snare. That's what I play and it took some trying heads and tunings but I found it. But I believe this is right on with what garret said. And miced it's gonna sound different

It could be miced up pretty high or just very tight head on it.

Sam Kinison's son...LOL
It just sounds like bottom tight/top tight
mic'd, rimshots, with compression.

yes very big drum, very tight head, a little bit of processing, and if my ears dont deceive... me a snare made of wood, not metal.

Now that would make Darwin recant.

Remo Acousticon shell cranked snares really tight.

I should have rephrased that. It's not crappy but it doesn't sound well for what I'm trying to do with it. I've tried double ply and single ply heads. I like tightening both sides very tightly.

I would get the vinnie paul snare but it doesn't match my kit at all and I'd look like a douchebag with it. Only Vinnie Paul is beastly enough to use it. I'll ask Timekeep for a 14 x 8 snare...when I'm not broke.

I agree with your last...get with Timekeep (PJ). We recorded a show the other night with one of his snares and I got alot of nice compliments and alot of "Damn that snare is loud as hell!" from other drummers. I'll post the vid so you can hear it. Was a good recording. Peace on ya!

if you want to recreate his sound get a snare the same size made of the same wood, and put the same heads on it. mess with the tuning till it sounds like his

I wonder if it's even an 8 inch depth in that video. He has changed from remo to evans, from single ply to double. He could have changed other stuff.

yeah im new here but id like to talk to timekeep about a snare that could get a nice high popping sound with a mix of a maple sound kinda ike the walnut black panther series
