i need an opinion on this Gretsch Catalina Ash set!!!!!!!!!!
Hey i was looking into getting a Gretsch catalina ash set. it's a five piece with a bonus 8" tom. my lead singer thinks i should just get a more expensive one, that's maybe used. what are you opinions on the ash wood, and of the set all together?

i own the catalina ash kit. it is a great kit! i bought mine used though. I slapped some pinstripes on the toms, powerstroke 3 on the snare, and an emad 2 on the bass. and it sounds killer. It is a good intermediate kit, and sounds wonderful. Gretsch makes good drums, all i have to say. Also, just because a kit cost more, does not mean it is better. I know i will probly get flamed for this but, i have played higher end kits, and my gretsch sounds just as good. Go to ur local music store, or call around and see if anyone has it first, so u can check it out, sure it wont sound amazing with stock heads, no kits do. But the finish is just absolutly amazing, and the sound is excellent. You wont be disapointed.

i think going for a hgher end kit thats used might be a good idea. Its what i would do. not too old. but you lose quite a bit of value as soon as you set your drums out of the box. just like driving s new car off the lot. its nice to have someone take that loss for you
