 lets talk sticks....
im really sick and tired of breaking sticks and dropping 7 or 8 bucks on a new pair all the time...
pet peeves:
i like the way nylon tips ping but the heads always fly off after a few days of playing.......
leaving a half decent stick with no tip.....
a brand new stick gets a little crack from something or another....crack grows, stick vibrates, and then the drum stick just breaks.....
has anyone used these:

are they really indestructible? and whats the feel and all that like compared to a traditional stick?

Hmmm. Those look aluminum... I've used aluminum sticks, just not the joey model. They wern't bad, but I was worried about stress on a cymbal. See, wood gives a lot more then aluminum. And if your a hard player (which it sounds like you might be) then I would just avoid metal sticks... Unless your buying ZBT zildgian packs... then busted a cymbal wont really matter.
But you never know until you try. But if I was you I would not buy signature sticks. You can find the same stuff elsewhere for a lot less. ONLY because it doesn't have a famous persons name on it.

I don't know about indestructable- but they're certainly sturdy, being made of metal.
I found the feel to be radically different than wood sticks; I'd recommend trying before buying. I never warmed to the feel of Aheads- plenty of people love them, but I couldn't deal with the feel.

what you said about the metal not giving..... the stick doesnt give at all? that sounds like a recipe for a broken cymbal. I have yet to break a cymbal, but i can immagine slamming the edge of the cymbal with the shoulder or shaft of a stick that doesnt give at all isnt to healthy for it.

actually, these sticks arent any harder on your cymbals or heads than wooden sticks. you're actually hitting the cymbal with a fairly thick piece of plastic. just make sure you replace the sleeve before you wear completely through the plastic.
but they hold up great. they do break though. just not nearly as often as wooden sticks. i had a pair i used for well over 100 shows before the actual stick broke. i replaced the sleeves i think 3 times but thats a whole lot cheaper than buying 100 shows worth of sticks.
as long as you hit your cymbals right (yes, there is a proper way to reduce stress on them) you'll have no trouble. i'd say the same chances as breaking a cymbal as you have with regular sticks.
only down fall. they feel a little top heavy to me.

What if nylon tip making companies made a completely nylon stick?
It wouldnt fly off then would it? But it being completely nylon might affect how it feels/weighs/balances and stuff like that.
On Topic: You could just try and buy the cheapest, largest, brick of sticks you can find, see if they're alright sticks, then use 'em. It might be cheap enough and you'll still have the stick you like.

I've never had a problem with nylon tips coming off, and I'm a hard hitter and also break sticks left and right. I use Vater 3a Fatbacks NT. I've just come to realization that my sticks break frequently because I play hard, and I deal with it. And yes, it does suck....

Its a waste of time using ahead sticks
It robs you of all feel for drums
What you will gain in endurance is not nearly enough to sway me
and 90% of all other people who stick to wood....look who plays them! None of them are any good!

i buy bricks of guitar center sticks, or whatever other no-name sticks i can find. fyi, guitar center "sound percussion" sticks are rejected Vater sticks, if anyone's curious.
i've never minded one stick in a pair being different than the other, and sometimes i'll use a different kind of stick in each hand. of course, i'm also not picky about how my drums are set up, or on whose kit i'm playing. engineers and producers love that i can just sit down and go with no adjusting/complaining.
cheap-o sticks are about $2-$3 a pair, but being rejects they break a little more often. overall, it'll save you money, and you don't get the "fuck, there goes another $8!!" feeling when you break one.

p.s. i've always wanted to get a no-name stick endorsement. i think it would be amusing to eventually be in Modern Drummer and go "Yeah, I play the Guitar Center sticks, my signature series!"

well, they don't come in a huge variety of styles, basically you get a choice of size- but I LOVE these things. I went through a ton of sticks looking for what suited me best.
here's a hornets thread I posted a while back:

I have yet to have a nylon tip come off my Pro-Mark TX707N's. Great sticks, wouldn't trade 'em for the world.
