I'm not gonna identify brands of equipment and stuff...just hopefully push you in the right direction.. The mics and cables should be first and foremost. This way, while you save up and prepare to make your next purchase...you can identify the pros and cons of your new mics while using them in live situations (use your mics instead of house mics).
I would move on then to finding a mixer that will suit your needs. Meaning, do you plan on JUST micing your kit and nothing else with this system?? Do plan on running vocals and/or other instrument mics through the board?? The point is..find a mixer with enough pre-amped XLR inputs to suit your needs. This will help you avoid buying an external preamp. You can spend anywhere between 700-1600 bux on a 12 channel mixer. On some of those mixers, you'll find all 12 channels include preamped XLR inputs. Some you'll find only 8 or even 6 of them are preamped XLR input and rest are 1/4" inputs, which you could run guitar and bass through.
My next step would be to decide how much power I'll need, thus leading to your amp(s). You can wind up easily spending 2-4000 on an amp.You need to be picky here. Not gonna say anything about it for that reason.
And now off to your speakers.
When looking into your amp(s), you must consider what you're gonna push the power through, or what rated speakers you'll use. This is another huge dollar sign, especially if you intend on buying your highs and mids seperated instead of in one combo, then your bass cabs.
Excuse me for being bland in these areas but, maybe this'll help you.
You'll probably wind up spending money on effects processers of different sorts, graphic eq's, crossovers, etc as well....but these are back burner hardware. Therefore, they're low priority. Don't "blow" your money yet, lol.
Do your research, bro. Next show you hit up take a walk behind the board...bug the sound guy if he's just sittin on his ass...see what he's got up his sleeve that he can point out to you.
Play Hard
