Freakin Joey Jordison. Don't get me wrong, he's a good drummer but come on...
How come Vinnie put quarters on his heads if he used triggers?

Probably to get the sound of the drums themselves with the click instead of the triggered drum sound.

they used to make these adhesive round plastic-covered metal disks that you would stick on the batter area of the kick drum. not sure if they still do.

tell your friend to sit their ass behind a drumset and play half of what vp plays.
... and on a side note... i was known to tape a quarter or two to my bass drum heads back in my metal days...

Danmar makes them.
They say it's supposed to sound like triggers--it doesn't

If you use them with a hard plastic or wood beater they do.
