Post My sound system problem..
well recently i found this old stereo system with some nice speakers which i thought would do well in my room, with my kit.

anyways, the whole reason, or main reason, i wanted them, was to play the drums to them..

well, now that i have put them in, it seems that whenever i hit the bass drum, when the music is on,
it either skips tracks, or a portion of the song..

now, i'll probably state the obvious here, or else be completely wrong, but i think that it's because of the vibrations just mucking up the cd being played..

any ideas on how i can fix this problem?

use an mp3 player

or mount the main bit, not speakers on some suspension...
like rubber or foam(lots)

...dude, I went through the same crap your facing, and there "aint" no fix'in it. The low frequency rumble from the bass drums, or floor toms causes the CD to vibrate just enough that even "anti-skip" players can't handle. Buy an MP3 player...and eliminate all your headaches. I picked up a Zen mp3 player and love it!

yeh, i do have an MP3 player, but then i'm faced with the problem of the headphones!
i just think that headphones get in the way..
plus, when i play with headphones, i turn them up REAL loud, so i can hear, and then i finish playing the drums with an extra ring in my ears..

i just reckon it would be better for my ears if i played with speakers, instead of headphones..

(ohh, and my sound system can't take a usb port, or ipod.. i don't know if i can attach one on there though :S)

here's what you do:

use your ipod.

get some ear buds.

go to a hardware store. buy a pair of noise reduction headphones. i got a pair at hardware hank for $12.

put the ear buds in from behind so the chord goes down your back. put the ear muffs on over the ear buds. put the ipod in your pocket.

you can play. hear the music and NOT destroy your hearing.

all for less than $20.

Get a cable to connect your mp3 player to your stereo.

^^ This is the best solution

1. The headphones will protect your hearing, because you sure as hell don't want Tinnitus (endless ringing)

2. You can use your mp3 player, which won't skip

Fold a thick towel up and put it under the CD player and then put a heavy book on top. That worked well 15 years ago when I had four 15"s on my home stereo.

Yup that's what I used to do, but I used a thick foam pad instead of a blanket. Works great and its pretty much free.

this use to work for me... the problem is that, at least when i use to play along to cds/tapes through a stereo, that by the time the music was loud enough to be heard over my drumming, the volume was at a point where my hearing was definitely being compromised.

not trying to toot my own horn but the ear buds / noise reduction headphones are definitely one of the safest ways to practice.

yeah, you could easily use a pillow to isolate the cd player as well. Also, I think putting it as far away from the bass drum is probably a good tactic.

That's what I have. The Creative Zen MP3 players are great and they work great when playing.
