I've done that more times than I would like.
What kind of cast do you have (i.e. full arm, half arm, etc.)? What kind of playing are you doing (i.e. school band, marching, rock set, etc.)? I had to march with a cast on a few times and I held the stick between my index and middle fingers. You'll have very little control over the stick though both because of how limiting a cast is by nature and the fact that your forearm muscles are going to be sore from the break.

I broke my wrist when I was a sophomore in high school, a week before a band competition. I played tenors, very bad. I did the entire part left-handed. Hard as balls, but man it was really fun, specially all the comments I got from others bands' drummers about how "fucking hardcore" I was. I'd tell you to do the best you could. This gives you a chance to really work on your other hand, so work it out.

if its a full arm then youll have to cut the part off that wraps around your hand
but that can be dangerous to do something might not heal right

Whatever you do, don't mess up the healing process by trying to use something that is broken. Concentrate on your other hand, and your feet. Or just listen and read. Pay attention to your Doctor, ask him or her what you can/can't do.

Practice the other hand. Don't risk messing up that arm any worse. Heal up to play another day...

I think the same thing to Travis Barker and guess what he did? he bought this mesh pad from roland and he played it like a bass drum but the sound was re-arranged so it sounded like a snare whenever he hit it, this gave him a chance to work on his other arm and legs more.
(apparently he broke it whilst playing in a music video, i'm not too sure now)

tape stick to cast. bash away. dont play anything requiring good wrist control or delicate touch.
