I have just got into drumming but i am stuck on these questions. does it matter if i begin with an electric drum set and will the transition from electric to acoustic be a huge difference?

Sort of. With an electric kit, you aren't getting the "true" sound of the drums, so that's why I don't like them. Some people prefer electric kits so it just depends. It shouldn't be too bad moving from electric to acoustic, but you will probably have to get used to the raw noise of an acoustic in contrast to the noise of an electric. If your planning on using an acoustic later on in your drumming career, I would recommend starting out with one, but you don't have to. But hey, I've only been drumming for a few months so what do I know

An acoustic kit will deliver more dynamic range, a "real-time" feel and action, and for me if I NEVER played a set of "rubber drums" again I'd be all the happier.

However, electronic kits are more apartment-friendly, they are good for laying down tracks "on the fly", they are excellent for volume-challenged applications (churches and casinos).

Tough question. If you can afford acoustics in the capacity of volume and placement, then get those. If you are challenged by volume and whatnot, go with the pads but get some decent ones. At one time I had actually made a decent living "fixing" bad technique by those drummers who were relegated to e-drums from day one.

Right on Bill Ray, you're full of great knowledge! The biggest thing I would worry about is the feel. Especially as a starter, an electronic kit has much more rebound than an acoustic kit. It could hurt your overall feel and chops when you move over to an acoustic. The rebound won't be there, so you'll have to have the strength built up, i.e. "chops." I just don't think an electronic kit is a good chop builder, that's all. But they are great if you don't wanna be loud and want a ton of sounds to work with. Good luck with your choice.

im not a fan of electric kits but everyone has their own opinion but i personally wouldnt get 1
u dnt get the same feel as an electric kit like u do with an acoustic

no, electric kits kan NOT replace and never will replace the realistic sound tht is of acoustic drums

I don't think it's more of a sound issue that it is a physical one. Playing the acoustic set is great because you feel what you are playing. You hit the kick and feel it resonate with low end, the snare and toms sound resonates through your body as you play and connects you to the drums. You just don't get that with electronic drums. Some guys play electronic and acoustic together, I've done that before as well, but electronic by themselves just isn't cool for me.
