 Noise problems
I have serious noise problems in my room, and its too loud across the whole house and room. And now I can never practice my chops, only when no one is home. I bought some SoundOff pads to decrease the noise but you can still hear it loudly outside my room and the pads don't rebound. My roomates hate the noise and I have no idea on how to soundproof. Any ideas? I've been thinking of the garage, but I live in Florida and its hot as hell and it untunes my drums in hot weather. Any ideas? And does anybody else face these problems, or is it just me?

either mess heads or play softer. you can build chops and tons of control by playing very lightly. and your roomies and neighbors will love you for it.

I cannot remember the forum where I mentioned this last time but..
Back a million years ago when my high school rock band was practicing smack dab in the middle of suburbia, we lined the walls of our practice room with mattresses
Fortunately, we were able to borrow some from each of our parents but the point is that they worked very well (they were happy that we were tying to lower the volume
The windows should be your first priority
Try to stick things in between the matress and the window like blankets etc...
The more mattresses, the less sound escapes
You can also try using multiple layers of carpet
Go to any carpet outlet and you will find tons of the stuff in the dumpsters and a lot of it isn't even gross

Either buy mesh heads, which can be a pain to put on and take off, or buy pads from a brand called xymox (zi-mox) they work really well, if you cant find xymox, (their website is kinda screwy, the only way i got the pads is cuz i know the owner of the brand) then go with vic firth pads, you can find them on musiciansfriend, and their close to xymox.

If you are just wanting to work on your chops when people are in the house buy a pratice pad set. You can get one for around $100-$150. They have decent response and stick feel and your roomies won't hear anything. Check it out.

drums are loud unfortunately all you can do is work with what you have got. the mattress idea tends to be popular because it works quite well. im working on sound proofing my practice room at the moment by using this compressed fyberglass stuff (called kingspan) that is put inbetween walls for insulation, literally just sticking it to the walls its gonna look so ugly in there... at the moment thought im just doing what you said..... practicing when no one is in, its better than nothing i suppose.
