i got some new sticks today from guitar center, unfortunately. i don't like the store but ended up there today and happen to need sticks. anyway, the guy tried to sell me on oak sticks because "they're tougher so they will last longer."
in my experience, however, hickory sticks have lasted much longer for me. i've always assumed it was because oak is a tougher wood, meaning it's also less flexible and so will snap before fraying or bending, where hickory will get beat up long before it breaks. is this true?
also, what do you use, oak or hickory and why? perhaps neither?
