Post ok Evans ec2's for reso's?????
ok so people always say that ec2s for reso's is a horrible idea or it'll end the world or it causes global warming. just kidding just the first one. anyway i went upon myself to try it any way ec2s on batter and reso for my toms. i dont know about anyone else but i like the sound it sounds very "Rockish" it gives the toms a short decay but not like dead its like better than dead. my question is why does everyone say it is so bad? Has anyone else tried it and not liked it?

Because most people like a more open sound... I use coated Emperors as batters and clear Ambassadors as resonants...

it is a bad idea,
it generally sounds bad..
drums that go "thud" and that's it is usually bad
and yes g1s and 2s are evans

Yeah I like a lot of resonance... I use all of my toms open except for a 4th of a piece of moongel on my 12"... Which will change when I get a tom rack...

do any of you guys use O-rings or do you like full hardcore resonance no muffling what so ever?

i use e-rings
but i cut mine down
about half of what they come as
that's just when my drums are set up in my basement/practice area
when i'm playing a show i leave them open

what do you for recording then do you like leave them on so they dont like overring? well you could easily just mix the tracks so they don't right?

yea, recording you want to leave them completely open
mic top and bottom so you get all the sounds, overtones, and resonance...
then EQ everything so it sounds like you want
you'll never be able to achieve a sound you hear on a recording
that's somethings newbies try to do way to often
just learn how to tune correctly
and leave your stuff open and let your drums sing dude
you and the people listening will be much happier

I use e-rings on my practice kit because it's set up in a room with bad acoustics... On my gigging set I leave them all open for shows other than a very small pillow in my kick.. When I'm recording I sometimes use moongels on my toms and snare depending on what it sounds like...
