 on need the low down....
on acrylic drums?
im currently sat watching razorlight (not my favorite band by all means) at reading festival and iv noticed there drummer uses a ludwig acrylic drum set. Iv always though acrylic sets where a novalty thing and wouldn't actually sound that good but the kit sounds great
so basically has anyone tried them before?
how do they feel/sound?

They're a little harder to tune and are very sensitive to weather extremes but overall sound great.

Spaun claims:
The acrylic shell produces a unique voice which is louder and emphasizes the initial attack more than their maple or birch counterparts. They have a darker, more focused note with a quick decay
according to Sonor:
The SQ2 promotional video describes the sound of an acrylic shell as "Enhanced upper and lower frequencies with reduced midrange frequencies."
the ones I've played have tended to seem louder, and I'd agree with the other observations made by the brands mentioned above

Yes, louder. Also if tuned properly, bigger sounding than their actual size. I've used 10" and 14" acrylic toms that sounded damn near as big as 12" and 16" wood toms. I love them. My next set is going to be an acrylic set.

Better have some good hands transporting them. One fall from a truck or car, bam, there's a crack.

I watched about 4 songs and got bored, but his kit was stunning! I'm sure Andy was signed to Premier a while back, guess things move on.
I saw Muse at the Isle of Wight and Dom had a Tama acrylic kit, but I don't think sell them in the UK. I have to say i think his kit sounded better and Andy's.

I saw Muse when they came through down here a few months ago, Dom's kit sounds great! The tone was huge- I really liked it.
There's a real trend right now, with some pretty high-profile players using acrylic kits on tour. Lots of good opportunities to hear them lately.

My roomate went to that show. I'm more jealous he got to see Cold War Kids.
