Post Pacific 805/LX?
I am fairly new to drums, and currently mess around on my friend's RMV kit when he leaves it over. I finally want a kit of my own, and have been looking into pacific. I'm very interested in the 805's, but i can get a better price on the CX, MX and LX. I was curious what you guys thought of the maple shells in comparison to the birch shells. I really like the sound of the 805's but haven't had a chance to try out the other series. Please tell me what you think.

I have a LX kit and love it. I would go with that.

For the choice between birch and maple shells it really comes down to preference.

Some people say maple is better live, and birch is best is the studio, but I've heard people say the exact opposite also.

The best advice is that you should go out, really look around and try out every kit you come across.
You'll find what you don't like and what you do and you could probably make a better decision than just us DML'ers saying "birch has balls! go with the 805!" or "maple's tone is just sweeeet. LX all the way"

Good luck with the drums man! Very Happy

I also play an LX. The shell is about 10% of the over-all sound and I have to have anyone tell me that my thick shelled maple drums sound bad in the studio. Smile

i was swapping out heads from the ol' pdp and putting them on the pearls, and the shells on the pearls are VERY thick. well actually i dont think they were thick the pdp's just look thin. but yeah my 10" tom weighs a good 35 - 40 pounds... but they have KILLER sound!

The MRX? The have 7.5mm thick shells to the PDP 9mm thick, and they don't weigh anywhere near 30 pounds. Smile

what i don't like about the XR lines of the PDPs are tom sizes... Man they have a HUGE 24" kick and the floor tooms are SO SMALL the actually look like rack toms!!! The 805 has bigger tom sizes...
