Post PDP FXR
So here's what happened. I got my school to buy a PDP FXR shell pack a while ago, and have absolutely loved it. It has perfect tones, and for the price, you will not find it's equal. However, i recently decided that i would buy it myself, because...well.. i want it. haha. the thing is...they discontinued it!!! anyone know why? anyone share my frustration? sure, they still have the FX series, but the tom is mounted to the kick, which changes the resonance, and sounds crappy if you ask me.

sounds like you're gonna have to steal the kit from your school. j/k of course. but if you dont mind me asking, with your bass drum, do you use heads like emad or super kick batters or put any kind of muffling in the kick at all? if so, doesnt that change the resonance and defeat the purpose of a virgin kick as much if not more than having a mounting bracket on it for a tom? the double ply batter heads and muffling effect the resonance of the drum the same as having a tom mounted on it.

thats why i never understood all these people fixated on having virgin bass drums just to put a emad on the batter, 6 inch port on the reso and a pillow inside the kick.

but if its just the aspect of how it looks, mount the tom off a cymbal stand.

or better yet. talk to school into "upgrading the kit" and offer to buy the one they have to help pay for the new kit.

I have a FXR kit and i might be getting a new kit soon so i could might let the shells go for like 250? Few dings and a bit of dust but still fairly new and in good shape
