 Pearl Export or...
Hey guys im really thinking about getting a pearl export as my new kit (they go for about $1400AU brand new around here) and ive made up my mind i want to get the Joey Jordison snare (please dont bother bagging me out about it ive heard it all before). Im into heavy metal drumming and just wondering if their are any kits that are like the export or even better for the same price because i dont want another entry level kit and i dont want to have to upgrade it for a while. Ive already got a Z Custom power ride and Meinl Byzance crashes so i dont need new cymbals.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.

Tama Rockstars are, in my opinion, better than the Pearl but if I were you I'd definately look into PDP. I think you'll like em. They go for $700-$1000 american for a 5 peice (that's with a snare). PDP makes the best intermidiate kits I've ever played (taking into consideration sound, features, looks and over all price)
A note to future posts: respect his wishes (and mine) and PLEASE don't go on a JJ snare rant. Thank you.

There are much better sets in this price and they are birch or maple not poplar like export..
Try to look at:
Mapex M Birch(5 ply birch-1 ply maple)
Tama Superstar Hyperdrive(Birch-Basswood)
Pearl Masters Custom(100% Maple)
Mapex Pro M(100% Maple)
Mapex Saturn(5 ply Maple-2 ply Walnut)
Yamaha Tour Custom(100% Maple), Maple Custom Absolute(Maple),Birch Absolute...
Here are some nice kits of all price ranges...How much are you going to give?????

If your gettin the JJ snare, you can get this instead.
http://cgi.ebay.com/PEARL-STEEL-SHELL-MIRROR-CHROME-SNARE-DRUM-EXC-N-RES_W0QQitemZ260235612441QQihZ016QQcategoryZ38095QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Its the same company, same shell material, similar depth (and a 6" is gonna me more sensitive than a 6.5" anyway) + is 14" instead of 13" so it will have a better tuning range. and your gonna save yourself ALOT of money

oh man, 1500 my friend is the magic number!!! For 1500 you have your choise of some of the finiest sets out there. I would definately look totally away from the Pearl Export if you're willing to pay that much. Tama Starclassic's what I own. I play punk, blues, ska, and hip hop on mine and it sounds great. I've heard hardcore, metal and emo played on my set too and it sounded real good as well. Tama Starclassics are real nice.

Yea, I'd get Tama Starclassic if you have $1,500US to spend on the shells and already have the other hardware needed. It just doesn't get much better than that!
If you will still need the stands, pedals, cymbals and cases, then I would recommend you buy what I did, the Tama Superstar Custom, which has many of the exact same quality features of Starclassic, except it uses birch instead of maple wood shells.
Stay away from Tama Rockstar or Pearl forum as those are beginner kits.

I agree with all of these except the Tama Superstar HYPE-errdrives.
For $1500 you can get a semi-pro/pro level set that is not made out of low-quality wood such as basswood.
G'luck with the choosin'
