Post Pork Pie yummies
OK...these aren't actually "mine" but they're still cool.

We finally got our Pork Pie snares in. A few of the 13x7 Amber Lites and a few of the 12x5 Little Squealers. I got to admit, I'm not a fan of acrylic shells but I like the Ambers. They have a good sound. I hooked it up with my kit and it had a nice, fat back-beat sound to it! Not too bad....not too bad at all. I certainly wouldn't mind adding one to my personal arsenal.

Hey guys -

The "black ones" are the Little Squealers. Maple shells - 12 x 5. Nice high pitched CRACK.

I have an amber acrylic piglite as my main snare. I love it! I use it over my DW. They are only $200. I talked two friends into getting one of these, and they've done nothing but praise me for doing so. Wink

yeah, the clear 6x14 acrylic kick a$$, the 13x7 are great too, have a nice dry deep pop to them. I just bought an 8 ply pork pie maple with a cherry wood veneer and I love it to death, one of the best snares yet.

I have this pork pie pig light in amber and i love this drum to death, this drum live sounds awesome at low volume, mid's and highs. You want to cut threw everything? you want rim shots that are mind blowing. this is a drum you must check into.

I use it for my main snare. For 200 bucks you cant beat it. just make sure you wear ear protection if your just practicing on it. otherwise you may get a headache..lol

Peace,
Joel

I was actually questioning the size of the smaller acrylic snare drums on top of the 5x12 Squealers.

Here's a question to pose to Pork Pie snare users...

I'm looking at getting a Pork Pie Snare, and I'm looking at getting either:

A) A 12x5 Little Squealer
B) The 14x6 Acrylic, it looks like this:

I know the Little Squealer has a really nice crack, but it apparently isn't very versatile. It would seem that the Acrylic is a bit more versatile, but then again, I've never actually heard it (I've just read reviews).

Any suggestions on which one to look further into?

I have played both of these and have them both in the shop. The LS has a great crack but lacks body. The 14x6 has great body, is sensitive but lacks the high end crack. They are both good in their own ways.

I've read that the Acrylic gets a nice pop when it's cranked, is this true? Because that would be awesome.

I'll be heading down to my local drum shop ( Pacific Drum Centre Van. B.C) tomorrow with the express interest of buying a new snare. they told me they just got some new vented pork pie snares that I HAVE to check out. I'll give you an update on what I buy but rest assured I won't be coming home empty handed!

Haha, I thought that, too. But the acrylics are set further behind and above the squealers.
