 Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
ok so i've seen a lot of people play and one thing i have noticed is the tightness and looseness people keep their hi hats. i would like to know what do you prefer and why. by tightness and looseness i do not mean how far apart you keep the top and bottom hat, i mean how much is the top hat choked or not choked by the clutch piece of the hi hat stand. But might as well include that too!
So how tight or loose, and how close or far apart do you like you're hi hats? and why?

 Re: Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
I like loose and medium distance because I like to play open hats alot and if it was farther apart and tighter it would be clangy. You can't have em too close or else you won't get a good chick.

What? Guys...can you please post in a manner that can be understood? Just take some time and think about what you want to say. Then post it in an appropriate way. Proper grammar is a neat thing! Use it! P.O.Y!

 Re: Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
I like mine tight and pretty close together. I don't like when my hats are loose and flopping around, and I don't like when they are clangy.
I was just think about making a topic about this. deja vu!

chick stump, like when you stomp your foot on the hi hat pedal? Is that what you were confused about?

loose and close-ish together, about an 3/4 to 1" apart. Gets a nice, funky chick, and a nice washy open/semi open.

 Re: Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
I usually play with my feet on the bass pedals so I just keep my hats closed on their own weight.

 Re: Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
loose and fairly close together. I like to get some "slosh" when I need it.

 Re: Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
I am the same way, I actually hate when my hi-hats are too far apart sometimes the my drop clutch will loosen itself and slide up while I am playing and that really gets to me! I also dont like to have any of cymbals tightend down I feel it chokes em.

 Re: Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
Most often I set up with the back edges of the hats touching and about a half inch of gap in the front. I leave the clutch somewhat loose to allow lots of flex. I do this because I don't chick my hats. Sorry, never have.

 Re: Poll Time!! Hi-Hats!!
Loose and close, usually a 1/4in to 1/2cm opening. Loose because they'd probably break if they were tight; close, because- when using the hat pedal- I hate having to go a long way to the floor to close the things. I also like the sound of close hats much more than far-open hats. I don't know why.

I play with about 1/2 inch apart and loose top hat. that way i can get the "slosh" out of them and a "chick" when i need it.
